[R.I.P.] Kansas City Chiefs Player, UMaine Graduate Kills Girlfriend, Self

On another note...does anyone else seem to think this is happening waay to much lately in pro sports...suicides I mean...what the hell is going on...its not like these people are poor they are making major bucks...im not getting it...ok this was a crime of passion but still theres some mental breakdown going on here

Probably all the "performance enhancing" junk they shoot up their veins.

It's not just happening in sports; it's also happening with returned vets. No, I don't know what the percent is contrasted with returned vets of other eras, but I wonder if part of this is about weakened coping skills in younger generations more accustomed to easier lives than, say, the "Greatest Generation."

Note: No disrespect intended to anyone; I'm just aware that "delayed gratification" as a social construct seems to be on the wane in our fast-food/instant-info society.

That my man was exactly where my head was...I wanted to see if it came out from others...:)

I'll chime in to agree with you. Yes, I do think that if "performance-enhancing" substances were being used, this would have an impact.

This is a whole new world from when I grew up...and it seems like yesterday my father was saying that to me...

Bwahahaha, I know!

The cowardliness and irresponsibility we've grown to tolerate is disgusting. I'm fuming with hatred for this coward right now, especially based on the fact that he had a young daughter.

More than that, it's the athlete-from-the-hood effect, where no one tells him "no" his entire life, hoping to live off his coattails one day. This girl was leaving him, and he couldn't handle the rejection. It was foreign to him.

I've seen nothing to give any possibility that the "athlete from the hood" effect applies. In fact, just the opposite. He had to work hard to get where he was at. I think most likely his argument with his wife would have been about a real world problem like infidelity or she had threatened to leave and take the daughter or maybe even the daughter was the result of a little help from a friend. Those are the more common triggers. Of course, no one ever wants to discuss them, but the reality is "human nature." He thanked his coaches before checking out and that indicates some fairly decent priorities. I'm not in the least sympathetic with what he did, just spinning reality.

On April 25, 1960 our dad shot and killed our mother and then blew his brains out. The reason was that both of 'em were screwing around. Being a Vet or an athlete (which he wasn't had nothing to do with it. Whitlock and Costas simply jumped on a PC baandwagon and ran with it. The kid was selfish. I'm 70 years old and still think of it. It affected my kids. People do this crap all the time. Nothing new or unique here. End of rant.

Many soldier, police officers and average citizens have killed innocent people in error or due to psychiatric issues. It doesn't make them monsters or animals.

So you're saying he killed his girlfriend by mistake? I don't get the analogy.

It may be like the lottery effect, where people who have never had major bucks or fame, suddenly get thrust into the situation.
Eventually going broke/dead from excesses brought by the money and fame.

Well...I understand your outrage..an innocent women is dead a daughter left fatherless and a young mans life lost...
After seeing this same thing play out many times..it always has one reality to me...he had his wires in his head all crossed...no one with a straight head does what he does...murder someone yes...but take your own Nope ...just my opinion and im not making excuses for him

Nah it takes a special kind of problem to kill your loved one and then yourself...cant blame that on sudden fame...besides by the time a kid gets to pro football...hes already experienced fame at the HS and College level if hes that good...its a wiring problem that was there a long time....thats my UNEDUCATED opinion

Could be, I'm just speculating myself.

Thats all anyone can do is speculate...we cant know what was in the kids head..I do know I couldnt do it...When someone acts so outside what is normal for the majority of other humans...we have a hard time accepting it...thats why we need trained professionals that deal with it all the time....we only base our opinions our what we ourselves think and how we would react..
Another words harry I took the long road to say we dont know **** loool
