Teacher suspended for playing song about being gay

That teacher is an idiot. You NEVER play a song or movie or anything like that if you haven't listened to/watched it yourself. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Being accepting of homosexuality does not make you pro-gay anymore than being accepting of people who smoke makes you a smoker or pro-cigarretes. It makes you: accepting. You know, your posts on gay issues keep getting more and more tainted with homophobic venom. Gay men wear panties, it's not 'okay to be gay' and dozens of others such great hits. Good luck with that in your personal life.

PS: Don't hide behind the catholic church to justify your homophobia. It makes you look incredibly dishonest.

If accepting homosexuality doesnt make you pro gay...what does it make you then ? This song was acceptance it was PROMOTION and dont try to belittle the catholic church because you believe you came from a monkey originally...Your posts arent anymore tainted then they ever were...they were always mostly venoumous rhetoric...before you accuse anyone of anything hatuey...open up your closet door and take out all the dirty laundry thats been in there....and you are not qualified nor do you have the authority to label my opinions.
Like I said and I stand by there is a SMALL faction that want ALL GAY EVERYDAY AND THATS OK...and want to do just what you did in your post...try to paint anyone that disagrees with any part of ALL GAY is ok...is a bad person...a religious zealot or a bigot...more people like me need to tell you to go stuff your opinion

Well I suppose if she played a song about loving Jesus she would have been crucified by the progressives and atheists....

I'm tired of the First Amendment being trivialized.... I suppose I wouldn't have a problem with the song just as long as there was an objective Jesus song...

It was wrong because the teacher was brainwashing her students with her values - and that is not right - that is not her position. Teachers shouldn't be teaching their politics in the classroom - at least not to kids....

It's funny how little you people read before jumping on the bandwagon. The teacher didn't play the song. A student asked to play it, and the teacher allowed it to be played after making sure it wasn't profane or violent. Please read before jumping on this poor woman.

And if she had played a song about Jesus, the conservatives and fake libertarians would be lamenting about her freedom of speech.

If the teacher had played it for herself, it wouldn't have been okay. However, since it was for a student's project, I don't see the issue. Students should be able to express opinions that offend others.

If the student expresses an opinion, why should the teacher be responsible for it anyway? Seems to me that the student should be reponsible for his or her own opinion. You know, personal responsibility.

Students should be able to express opinions that offend others.
Agreed. That's why Christian students should be allowed to pray out loud in their classrooms at the start of each school day.

If accepting homosexuality doesnt make you pro gay...what does it make you then ?

I explained this to you already: It makes your ACCEPTING. The rest of your post is utter nonsense. Topics you should read up on so you don't embarrass yourself like you usually do:

Evolution, the difference between acceptance and support, bigotry, homophobia.

Don't come cry to me as the victim of some sort of mislabeling. You're clearly a homophobic individual who can't come to terms that some people are gay. Your posts over the last few weeks on gay issues have made this quite obvious. You think gay men wear panties, you claim to be some kind of authority on what is right or wrong, you even suggest that in a gay relationship one plays the husband and one plays the wife. As if the underwear you use determines your masculinity or femininity. All of your rantings are classical statements by other homophobes who came before and were far more original in their vitriol. However, you react violently when this is pointed out to you. As if it's somehow my fault you can't come to terms with the simple conclusions one derives from your statements.

Now, when I said you hid behind the catholic church, what I meant was, and the point which clearly sailed above your head, was that you were using them as a shield to hide your clear hatred of homosexuals. And here it is:

People are up in arms over a gay song that has no business in school anymore than a pro catholic song should be allowed in school

Oh look! A person who didn't know your posting history on gay issues would automatically think you're just trying to be fair. No religion messages, no gays messages right? Except of course we know exactly just how rabidly homophobic some of your posts on this forum have been and they fool nobody. You're an intellectual coward who has perpetuated lie after lie about homosexuals and can't even own up to the fact that he just doesn't like them for whatever reason. Cowardice to the point where he's willing to throw the catholic church under a bus just to pretend he's not homophobic.

I dont give one bit a **** what you or anyone else want to consider or call my stance on homosexuality...My beliefs will change when I believe I can see where I was wrong...not because a few chumps want to try and bogart me...lol...that never worked in real life.
Im tired of the silly crap that goes on here with gays...you have gays that not only want everything...they demand it...then you have their flock of cheerleaders that come behind them and attempt to label and belittle and badger anyone that dares disagree with ANY any part of anything gay and make them out to be vile dirtbags....well go for it I COULDNT GIVE A **** LESS...about you them or any one else that wants to play that game.
You want to believe I hate gays...GO FOR IT I dont care..as long as my daughter knows the truth thats the only thing important to me....want to label me a homophobe any gay or you that wants to step to me in real will find out how scared I am...roflmaooooool....want to call me a bigot..cool im good with that...I believe what I believe and not only dont I give a **** if you like it or not...you have no chance of every changing it...
So take your self righteous Im always right and I know everything attitude and say gbye...cuz thats all your getting from me on this topic from here on out...now goodbye :)

Oh and what the hell does sexuality have to do with art when you're dealing with kids?

When is the transsexual rap song coming out?

Isn't sexuality a private thing when you're twelve-teen? What the hell is a matter with these teachers??

It's like these progressives are obsessed with the sexuality of children.....

Now, that's a very partisan statement. Can you prove it?

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I suspect nobody knows "the rest of the story".

The district said in a statement earlier this week that the use of recorded material in class is covered by the staff handbook.

"It requires that instructor to first preview any taped material to be used in the classroom, including YouTube clips, then submit a completed form about the proposed clip to a building administrator for approval," the district said.

So...it seems the teacher ignored school policy. Seems a pretty clear-cut reason for suspension.

The teacher, it seems, is now back in class and ended up not losing any pay, though.

Superintendent William Pearson followed up with another email, apologizing if his decision to suspend Johnson offended anyone.

"I am willing to not uphold the suspension, but the violation of the district practice regarding web-based clips and our expectations for instructions previewing materials under this will remain in writing," he said in a statement.

The president of the South Lyon Education Association, which represents the district's teachers, said he supports members' efforts to foster tolerance and understanding "without equivocation"

"We also know that teachers need to follow administrative policies and, yet, we feel the district's initial response, a two-day unpaid suspension, to one of our members showing a video clip without submitting the required form, was excessive," said Jim Brennan. "After voicing our concerns, we are pleased that the district reconsidered, and chose to rescind the two-day unpaid suspension. We look forward to meeting with the district to come up with a final resolution."

From The Detroit News: South Lyon teacher's pay restored after suspension over gay-themed song | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com

Personally, I find this to be an over reaction on the part of the gay community. I see this as an issue about school policy that was ignored by a teacher. If people disagree with the policy then that is a separate issue that can be looked at by the school board and the community.

In fairness, that should also go for songs about being Christian. However, the elementary school near our house is not allowed to play any songs dealing with religion because it may "offend" someone.

L

I agree, but can't you see where christians have made this problem for themselves? If a student gets offended because of something and you freak out over it then you end up having to freak out over everything that mioght make someone feel angry. The christians pushed this agenda to keep homosexual, muslim, jewisgh, atheist, and every other thing they hate out of schools, and now it effects their own holidays. Frankly the school should just say tough **** to the little twat that was offended because people are different. But as long as you cater to the homophobic and bigoted twats of the world you will have to cater to all of the bigoted twats of the world. That includes those who get offended at christmas and those who get offended at a song about a gay guy.

'Bigotry' has a bad reputation. Catholics are happy to be bigoted against homosexuals and atheists; I'm happy to be bigoted against Catholics. As for the rest, I identify culturally with White Anglo-Saxon Protestantism (High Church, not the evangelical swill). And I would have supported them in the 1920s against the Catholics who raided the patronage jobs and supported the corrupt machines.

Then I think by your own admission in your message we all can agree that you are a bigot. All your messages should be read from that perspective and we all should make a note of that for future reference.

Actually I think it is false to put the whole blame on Christians for this one. The public school system sort of caused this problem when they didn't allow Christian music to be played in school for fear it might offend the atheist parents or kids. This is just political correctness gone crazy.

I blame the people that are continuing this nonsense of political correctness gone stupid.

The problem is that these days EVERYBODY is so easily offended. I imagine that if the offended student had used an anti-gay song to express his views the gay kid would have been offended. What we need in schools is a "You have no right to not be offended" class.

Agreed. That's why Christian students should be allowed to pray out loud in their classrooms at the start of each school day.

And since when were they unable to do so? You seem to be confusing the ban of teacher lead prayer with students saying their own prayers. I suggest you stop getting your news from WND.

Since the 1970's. Don't you know anything, oChild?

Making up your own reality doesn't win arguments.

Students have never been banned from saying their own prayers. Schools have been banned from teachers leading those prayers. Learn the difference.

If you want to save any credibility you have left, I suggest you stop getting your news from WND.

Students are not allowed to pray aloud in classs or hold organized prayer sessions in public schools - are you saying they are? They are allowed SILENT prayer.

As for the song, it politically biased, anti-religious and I don't think it's appropriate for the classroom. But hey, other than a music class why are they playing tunes in the classroom to begin with? Focus people, the schools are already having a tough time educating students in the basics, why waste time with this nonsense?

As long as you aren't disrupting the class, you can say whatever you want. SCOTUS has never argued that kids are barred from saying prayers in the classroom. SCOTUS has banned authority lead prayers in the classroom. If ten kids want to say a prayer in the morning, they can do that if they are not disruptive. What the school cannot do is have the teacher or other authority lead that.

Supreme Court bars student-led prayer at high school football games
June 19, 2000

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that prayer does not belong in public schools, even if students initiate and lead the prayers.

The court ruled 6-3 in a Texas case that public schools cannot allow student-led prayer before high school football games, a decision that reinforces the wall between church and state erected by the First Amendment.

The ruling came in Santa Fe Independent School District v. Jane Doe, a case involving the Sante Fe Independent School District in Galveston, Texas, which allowed student-initiated and student-led prayer to be broadcast over the public address system before high school football games.

As much as I agree with the first half of your first sentence, otherwise I have to go with Hautery on this one.

I'm not sure why you claim Hautery claims he came from monkeys - or what that has to do with this topic. It would appear the first half of your first sentence applies to both of you.

Supporting equal rights for gays does not make a person "pro-gay," any more than a person who is "pro-choice" is "pro-abortion" - or "pro-life" means "pro-unwanted-pregnancies." I'm not "pro-socialism," but support the right of a person to be and vote for socialism.

Then again, I am, in someways, very pro-LGTB personally - very much so in some ways - although I also am straight personally.

Same thing as his attack on my being catholic....I dont care what you are to be honest...im not against gays thats contrived by gays and their cheerleaders because im against any assault on marriage...like taking bride out of marriage...my wife is my bride and will be in voice and on paper till the day I take my last breath and a small group of people arent going to change that just to make themselves feel good..

See what you missed was that Its ok to play gay songs but not religious songs...and hatuey doesnt like religion and hes made that plain in MANY MANY POSTS so if he doesnt believe in creation then he believes in evolution and we all came from monkeys...there was no RACIST intent in my statement it was purely religious in nature to respond to his snide comment that I was hiding behind catholicism..which I DO NOT i am not a very religious person and religion doesnt guide my life...
Being gay is fine I have a gay daughter...forcing you will on me and degrading what I want so you can have whatever it is you want is not ok....if your going to sing songs on homosexuality and allow it...then you need to allow songs about jesus and anything else all the others are against and want banned...being gay isnt immunity from restrictions that are placed on others in the classroom....want to sing a gay song im fine with it as long as you let another student sing his favorite pro religion song...do you get my point joko ? I hope so I dont expect gays or their cheerleaders to get anything but whatever they want to make it out to be.

Nothing I wrote was in defense of Hautery's messages in general and your view of his bigotries justifies yours is nonsensical.

Your message reeks of insecurities. And being naive in some regards. Generally, when gays married - with or without a license - they do use titles for each other like "husband," "wife," "bride," and "groom." You didn't know that?

It isn't that you fear being unable to call your wife your bride. That's just foolish. Call her anything you want and can get away with - your wife, your bitch, your lady, your better half, your whatever. Instead, you want to stop others - specifically gays - from using those words too. Your raging about this all is what gives rise to the word "hate" seeming to attach to your views.

Who gives a damn what the government calls your spouse? I guess you do. How much else of your marriage do you allow the government to dictate?

I think there is some merit to the idea that we ought to instill young people with the notion that their beliefs ought to be challenged and that frequently you will come across ideas, materials, and so forth that are personally offensive to you or that you disagree with.

Actually I think it is false to put the whole blame on Christians for this one. The public school system sort of caused this problem when they didn't allow Christian music to be played in school for fear it might offend the atheist parents or kids. This is just political correctness gone crazy.

That being said (the Next), when someone uses the mantra of "political correctness" it really undermines the legitimate problems and complications surrounding which material ought to be in that danger zone, and why teachers ought to consider what they do carefully. Most teachers are quite respectful about these boundaries, as gray and foggy as they can be.

Being an armchair critic is rarely helpful.

You missed another thread about washington state passing a resolution to elminate the word bride or groom from marital forms so as not to offend gays or something...that was what that was about..and its not nonsensical to me..

If you or anyone else wants to put your own spin on what I am and what I believe..im good with that..becaue it means not hing to me...I was around more gays in my life then you will ever be being straight...ive had very personal upfront situations with them for years...dont pull the im naive or im afraid because im naive garbage...because thats what it is...Im against gay marriage and I dont care if you or anyone else likes it or not...I dont hate gays...but I do hate non gay cheerleaders that I feel are mostly full of **** that like to label people and name call and discriminate against everyone else while crying foul over the smallest gay thing...gays are far less obnoxious then most of the phony gay supporters that go overboard with it to look PROGRESSIVe and open and lol whatever silly **** is for the day...they are laughable and many are purely full of ****

Know how I view the very vehement non homosexual cheerleaders on here...I view them like the race baiters that live in an ALL WHITE neighborhood went to all white schools never been around more than two blacks at once in their life...telling a guy like me im a racist and I grew up on a project with 20% white kids and had a black woman adopt me and protect me as her own when my father was working...its the same type of full of **** people

On the forum I call her my "wife" and also do so in some social settings when appropriate. However, to her I've never called her that. "My little girl," "my girl," "my gal," ---- and some pet names like "kitten" or "kitty" (because she's wore panties that say "Kitty" on it), and metaphysical like "little angel" and "little pixie" ---

- - - but mostly I just call her by her name. I cannot recall every using the word "bride" to or about her. No particular reason, just never used it. But it sounds like you want to kill over that word.
