Albania is celebrating its 100th Year of Independence

So violations on the department of defense are done and when captured at best (if lucky) the issue is told to average Joe to handle it through media. Somehow this doesn't seems to work. What can ordinary people do when even the FBI fails?

No you misunderstand. The media caught wind of some funny business at two bases which handle old chemcial and biolgical weapons. they checked it out and found a BIG problem and reported it. The DOD went ape **** over it and the "house' went dark so to speak.

The FBI fails when it is told to fail. The agents I knew in Wisconsin and some other states seemed to be good guys but this type thing is usually passed up the chain and then they yank yours.

Huh! Look at that! I thought that corruption occurs only around these parts!

Whatever you found must be something big. Bigger than the congressman for sure!

Corruption and nepotism really damages our countries. It is so hard to fight its spreading' for it is difficult to identify and do a major response against it.

Still for what its worth, I hope you are well with your son, for what you all did is very brave. Wish there were more of those than corruption.

Congratulations. What's the climate like in Albania. For some reason, I always thought of Albania as a stooge of the Soviets. I guess because it is small and somewhat remote. Either Albania or Bulgaria was famous for doing a once a year currency scam to finance its government. Does that sound familiar?

It is slightly raining here in Dardania. Stooge is a good word and Albania did stooge the Soviets and that during the Stalin era too. It was the dictator Enver Hoxha who freaking isolated the country with his paranoid sense of reality and obsession with communism to the point (check this now) that he even evaluated that the Soviets were not following communism like they should (like him) and turned their back to them. Shortly after a grand welcoming was made in China for him that was of course interested for the stooge role again in Europe for trading.

The role was mutually beneficial for the Chinese provided much financial help. But it isolated the country to the point that no one (even tourists) could not get in or out without "proper" looks (basically no: jeans, long hair, beard, fancy hair style, etc). Then after his death and fall of communism, few great people happened to come to Albania's shores for a guest visit:

Remarks Commemorating 100 Years of Albanian Independence

Those were George H.W. Bush and his associates that were modestly dressed as if they were not presidents and came for a friendly visit in 1991 to meet with PM Sali Berisha. Because George W. Bush came in 2007 also and a huge ceremony was made to honor him the sites are flooded with Bush jr and I can't find images of George sr with Sali Berisha. But you have it there in that link.

Thanks for clarifying that up Wolfman. How would you kick corruption, nepotism, and greed? You with such experience you probably have more expertise to speak of an enlightening method against the above 3 most potent country harming factors.

After the movie "Bodyguard" I wanted to join Secret Service for a while.

Not really. Maybe we need Vulcans to take control. No emotions, no ego, no greed. Long life and prosper!

So, is there a monument to the Skanderburg SS Division somewhere in Albania?

No, unfortunately not! :)

Nice of you to search some related to our histories. Now then first lets first clarify the name "Skenderbeu" was an Albanian military genius and commander whom managed to stop an Ottoman Empire from conquering a good part of Europe and converting it to Islam, and did so with only 6000 troops.

The Nazi SS division was created and used the above mentioned hero's name so as to fight with Nazi's and liberate northern parts of Albania that were conquered and under occupation from Serbs (since the Nazi were against Slavs). On the other hand we considered that fighting against civilians and Jews was wrong, so we hid the Jews and protected them, as well as joined SS divisions (that were not volunteers mind you!) to fight against Slavs up north.

Makes sense?

Really? Wow Planet Vulcan of course. Where else.

Too far. You know I think I could stand for "no greed. Long life and prosper!" but not without emotions or ego. Can anyone cover the other two?

this is probably going to surprise you but under certain circumstances I would say a person with Aspergers syndrome or are you ready a sociopath. In both cases they lack certain characteristics which "normal" (read NT for neurolgically typical) people take for granted. Keeping in mind that only a very small number of sociopaths actually become violent the trick here would be to find just the right person(s) for the job.

That would be a major pain in the ass.

There are psychological tests to find out the right person if you know what you are looking for. But what do you mean by "are you ready a sociopath?" Am I ready a sociopath!

Well not ready yet, I guess, still waiting for the full moon, the wind to move the 348th single gray hair of mine in a 147 degrees precisely, and of course I should have one foot on exactly 25 degrees Celsius and my right hand holding a reevers plathus plants' troils. Under such conditions I don't see who would not be ready really!

Hello guys :)

We are celebrating our 100th year of independence. Thought I should share it since it is mainstream media here and this is a political forum.

I feel great for being able to share this now freely across the world. Hello other independent countries, this is us here celebrating:

Sorry, I just saw this thread!

Congratulations to Albania on it's first century as an independent country! I hope Albanians had a wonderful, prolonged celebration to mark this historic event. Here's hoping for many more celebrations to come! :)

My what a warm greeting :) Warmest yet! Thank you very much Dianna.

I see that the celebrations were not local (nor regional for that matter):

100TH YEAR INDEPENDENCE OF ALBANIAN!! 100 vjetori i Shqiperise..THIS IS HOW WE PARTY IN CHICAGO - YouTube

RAISING ALBANIAN FLAG IN CHICAGO FOR 100TH INDEPENDENCE DAY OF ALBANIA - YouTube

Urime 100 vjetorin e Pavarësisë së Shqipërisë (Belgjik) - YouTube

This is the only one local in Youtube I think:

Gezuar 100 Vjetori - YouTube

But I can't find the giant cake nor the architectural specially designed and build construction that marked the 1st Century Albania!

Just another year of celebrating Albania's independence. My, how time flies fast in DP. It seems it was just yesterday when I posted this thread.

We are of course divided over this date. It is the date when Ismail Qemali declares independence of Albania without us in it. The day they got liberated and we did not. They day we were divided from the other Albanian body only to be liberated nearly a century after.

Hence see details in the link on my signature.

Congrats. I already knew....it came up in re-runs of Downton Abbey when the Turkish ambassador's son was visiting

So isn't anyone going to congratulate or so?
I'll congratulate.

Congrats! :)

I've always wanted to visit Albania, but never have. Yet.

Try "cold water" area during summer in Vlora beaches  . I have seen many hundreds of Brits while I was out there.

It is also a historical city. If interested in history though, and would like to hear it chronologically, then the first stop is Prizren, Dardania, and then Vlora.

Cheers.
