Yeah, flipping off a sign asking for respect for those who gave their lives for their country is just goofy humor.

And why is it a big deal? No one should be forced to show respect towards anyone, she has freedom of speech as well and I think the overzealous patriotism of others shouldn't cause her to lose her job.

Why don't people realize that it's not "the act" itself but the extremely poor judgment of posting it on the internet? She's an idiot. She was on company time. She disrespected the sign and what it stood for. In and of itself? "Hahahahaha!!! Look at this picture pretending to piss on the Statute of Liberty!!!!" It's just a funny picture. Put it on the internet and it becomes who you are.

    She learned a valuable lesson.

I dont agree with you but then again I am self employed and dont post on facebook. If my cliets came on this forum and didnt like what I said they might fire me. I dont think its smart but its their money to do with as they please. I personlly dont think what she did any of our business. At most it should be between her and her now former employer. Much ado about nothing if you ask me.

Your employer can dictate your behavior during time in which they aren't paying you.

Which makes you a "subject" of your employer.

I know the standard is "if you don't like your boss quit".

But most folks can't just quit. They accept more and more invasion of their unpaid hours to avoid insolvency. Fear expressing themselves because their boss might find out. Conform to the most stringent standards of behavior or risk repercussions years or decades later.

I don't see anything regarding serving vets on the companies website. It says they serve people with learning and intellectual disabilities.

If you work at an abortion clinic and decide you want to visibly make fun of the clients it serves, or the signage on their buildings! posting pictures on your Facebook site, you deserve to be fired. Nobody has a damned lick of common sense today...screaming about rights. Good God.

She wasn't 'forced to show respect'. She went out of her way to show disrespect, and then published it for all to see. You want to play games like that, prepare yourself for the consequences.

I can agree with this, people should use more discretion when deciding what pictures of themselves they post online.

And personally I don't care that she showed disrespect, others may care but I don't. What she did was stupid on her part but I don't think she should lose her job or be vilified over it
