98 senators for voted in favor of the US Patriot Act of 2001 ( Landrieu did not vote. Feingold was the only senator who voted against the Patriot Act on October 24, of 2001.)

And most of them didn't even read it. It's sad how easy it is to tear apart the 4th amendment.

No relationship exists between Republicans and Democrats. It's the Government vs. The People and I can tell you right now who is winning.

Look at the votes for The Patriot Act and similar legislation and you'll see a distinct lack of party lines. Our owners have long ago used the Constitution as toilet paper and you can expect more and more of this type of legislation. "Vigilance is the price of Freedom".

I'm under the impression that Republicans are the ones people consider as wanting to abridge people's rights and that Democrats stand up for the privacy and rights of the people. Am I wrong about this? Leahy is a Democrat.

Your opinion might have some credence...but it seems we have a Democrat here purporting to stand up for the people...then inexplicably changing his mind.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the hippy generation that protested against war, the man, gov't oversight, etc is now getting involved in not only this crap, but legislating what we can eat, drink, etc?

Not for one moment have I ever believed that the interest of the owners includes allowing freedom. The whole "freedom" concept has been gone for decades now. 9/11 just sealed the deal and if we had a plebiscite tomorrow, a majority of Americans would welcome constant observation in the interests of their safety.

The only reason this happened as slowly as it did was the lack oif the technology to do so. Before computers, you couldn't read millions of pieces of mail in a matter of seconds. Now, an Orwellian TV that watches you is entirely plausibile and perhaps a decade away.

Next time you're out, count the number of cameras you see mounted on buildings. Privacy is an arcane concept. We can only hope for a relatively benevolent police state at best.

    More like hypocritical.

Let's work to force the end of Patriot Acts. No one seems to mind them anymore.

Also we would benefit greatly if we could learn to stop all the childish school yard bickering. Stop the partisan crap about who it first and who did it worse. Who ****ing cares?!!!!!!!! Show me who in Washington is working relentlessly to return all these freedoms to Americans. It wasn't a campaign issue for either party. Why? Which party is hell bent to return rights to the people? Neither.

I'm sick and damned tired of hearing blame and finger pointing from partisan to partisan. BOTH parties are working NOT to restore your freedom. You think YOUR party wants to give you more power? LOL! It's bull**** and a lot of y'all are buying into it. It amazes the hell out of me. Neither ruling party is going to restore freedom to the People. Neither is seriously working to do so!

I joined the Libertarian party the week of the election, I'm not in the "y'all" catagory because of what you are speaking of. LOL!
And I agree, people need to wake up before we have to sign a waiver to leave our houses.
