Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours...[W:287/521]

No, we perfectly understand how our tax system distorts and screws up our healthcare market. That's why conservatives have been proposing to end that disparity and equalize the tax treatment of individuals and employers who purchase health insurance. You may recall that that was part of the Republican platform in 2008 and Barack Obama castigated Republicans as attacking employer-provided health insurance?

There is no good reason why you should be tied to a job you hate because you fear losing your health insurance. It is a travesty that we have allowed an unintended consequence of wage controls from the 1940's to so mangle our healthcare market and make the system needlessly expensive and difficult for everyone.

I certainly remember what old man McCain was proposing during the election, and it wasn't a bad proposal, but I doubt very much he would have pursued it if he'd won. Republicans had no interest in reforming health care. Sort of like when the proposed Obamacare as a counterpoint to Hillarycare. Remember that?

Fortunately with ACA employees are no longer stuck in a job because of health insurance. Now they can't be turned down for preexisting conditions if there's a gap in coverage and they can buy affordable insurance on an exchange. Not the best system, but a major improvement over what we've had.

What if it's not? I mean how long, and how much misery will it take when it fails for progressives to admit it was a mistake? How many will die for your pipe dream?

So, you're saying not having health care because of a pre-exisitng condition is a better situation than having health care even though you have a pre-existing condition? Sorry, but your logic is failing there.

Oh man! I think I teardrop just hit my keyboard because individuals will have to pay slightly more on their eggs over My Hammy for individuals to receive medical care.

Re: Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with co

Did the same guy provide all of his workers better benefits and more pay and reduce the cost of his food by 5% when he got a tax cut under bush?

Yea, didn't think so. Funny, when you give people a tax cut, that's more money that they get because they're amazing, when you bump their cost of doing business by a small amount, the only way to cope is to take it out on their employees by gaming the system.

Thats the way the world is. No one ever said that life was fair. Indeed i'm always told that life ISN'T fair. Just have to deal with it.

Re: Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with co

How about people stop going to these establishments that don't give two ****s about their employee's, or customers, and go to business's that at least try to treat every fair, and honestly. We'll see how long they keep these policy's in place.

There isn't one company that won't do something in response to Obamacare. Most will probably not be open about it...but they will still do something. Either quietly reduce employment or employment hours and/or pass on the cost to consumers. Thats the way the buisness world works.

Absolutely, it is unfair that employees get tax free premiums, while the self employed do not.

The other thing that would need to be equalized, then, would be the difference between individual and group insurance. You can't get group insurance without being a part of, well, a group.

If an employer wants to offset an employee's insurance purchase, then more power to them, but the individual should pay taxes on that benefit as though it was income.

And that's a shame. If an employer cannot afford to pay for health insurance for employees, how on earth do people expect that individuals will be able to afford the premiums themselves? The real issue here is the cost of health insurance. I'd prefer single payer to keep costs down, but conservatives are opposed to that as well. It seems the only solution that makes the conservative population happy is no health insurance for lower-income families.

Why is that? Do you think that employers will be happy paying taxes on the insurance premium income as well? Remember, for almost every payroll tax paid by employees, employers pay it too.

Because its income, just like any other bonus or perk you get through employment. Granted, my opinion is also that businesses should pay no income related taxes either.

If the premium is 800 bucks a month, and the employer kicks in 400 of that, you end up paying 520 for insurance instead of 800 without it(400 out of pocket, 120 in taxes).

Which businesses do you think should pay no income taxes? All businesses or just corporations? What is your reasoning?

So you are a supporter of higher taxes? Interesting as I thought that most conservatives supported lower taxes. Do you also support removing the beneficial tax treatment of investment-related income?

All of them. There is no point in taxing a business, because those taxes are passed onto the end consumer. If we only taxed individuals income, and their benefits as income, then the tax code would be much simpler.

Its a support of a broadened tax base, so that means everyone pays. If all individuals paid income taxes, then you can reduce the rates overall, reduce deductions, and simplify the code while increasing revenues. If I could trade the long-term capital gains brackets for that, I would.

In zee teeth. No free lunch boxes.

Parasite Nation comes with costs... fewer jobs... hidden taxes... everywhere.

But it's freeeeeeeeeee! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Wrong numb nuts. It's Aints free.

You mean I might actually have to spend an extra .40 for an inedible hamburger? Oh the humanity? And all that just so people working for minimum wage can have health insurance? Oh, the humanity!

IN THE NEWS:
John Metz Denny's Obamacare Surcharge Stirs Big Mess For Restaurant Chain

Don't expect to hear more about an Obamacare surcharge from Denny's franchisee John Metz.

Denny's chief executive John Miller privately reached out to Metz to express his "disappointment" with the Florida franchisee's controversial statements about Obamacare, which sparked a wave of backlash for the national restaurant chain over the past few days. Metz released a statement Monday night expressing "regret" over his statements.

"We recognize his right to speak on issues, but registered our disappointment that his comments have been interpreted as the company’s position," Miller said in an email to The Huffington Post.

Miller is rushing to put out the fire sparked by Metz's controversial proposal to charge restaurant customers a 5 percent Obamacare fee. "Customers have two choices: They can either pay it and tip 15 or 20 percent, or if they really feel so inclined, they can reduce the amount of tip they give to the server," Metz told HuffPost in an interview last week.

Some Denny's franchisees have since dealt with angry customers, calls for a boycott and declining sales. A spokeswoman for Metz said he will not conduct more interviews.

Metz, whose RREMC Restaurants owns more than 30 Denny's locations, said in a statement, "We regret that the statements we made may have been interpreted as representative of the Denny’s brand or of other franchisees, which they are not. Our stores do not have a 5 percent surcharge. Despite recent media coverage, RREMC Restaurants is committed to exploring viable and effective ways to deal with the changing economic climate, including the implementation of The Affordable Care Act. We have always been and will continue to be 100 percent dedicated to our employees and customers and will work tirelessly to find solutions that are in their best interests. It is our intention is to fully comply with the law."

Re: Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with co

For how long, and what's the interest rate, and how much are we eating into the principle we already owe? All of these things are important.

It won't be long, we really have no means to pay back the money we've borrowed now, China is going to eventually cut us off and then what happens?

Interest rates are dictated by market forces, and right now that's less than inflation. People are so confident in the US's ability to pay back its loans that they are willing to essentially lose money when they lend it to us. And this is in the middle of the worst financial crisis of our lifetimes. Revenue is sure to increase as we claw our way out of this mess.

Can we borrow unlimited amounts forever? No, of course not. But clearly right now we are not in danger of running out of lenders.

Those market forces are driven by the value of the dollar versus world currency. The dollar is devaluating as is the U.S. credit rating, all because we are loading the economy with junk from unnecessary and unpayable debt to inflated dollars to junk economic plans that necessitate a furtherance of the bad debts and inflated dollars.

The Fed's Futile Effort To Bail Out Obamanomics - Forbes

In what can be viewed as a desperate effort to bail out the failed economic policies of the Obama Administration, the Federal Reserve this week committed to purchasing $40 billion a month of mortgage backed securities for an unlimited time and to keep interest rates artificially low until at least mid 2015. By so doing, the Fed has embarked upon a course that invites higher inflation, falling living standards, and a global financial crisis.

The inflation we have currently is in the lower overall value of the dollar since Obama took office as well as higher commodity and gas prices.

Why do you repeatedly make the false claim that the dollar is falling? The dollar is higher now than it was five years ago. It's just about in the middle of the range that it's traded in over that time period. It's been appreciating since about mid-2011.

If we (as a nation) are going to consider a corporation as a person, it would make sense that the corporation would pay taxes. Otherwise, if a corporation is not a person, it shouldn't shelter it's owners from liability. Proprietorships and partnerships are taxed on the individual.

Its a support of a broadened tax base, so that means everyone pays. If all individuals paid income taxes, then you can reduce the rates overall, reduce deductions, and simplify the code while increasing revenues. If I could trade the long-term capital gains brackets for that, I would.

There is a reason that 47% of the population pays no income taxes. Normally it is because they make so little money or have such high deductible expenses that the government recognizes that they can't afford to pay income taxes. Also, keep in mind that they pay much higher social security, property, and sales taxes relative to their income than their wealthier counterparts.

I've always favored a wealth-based tax, where whatever you don't spend during a year gets taxed. Since a large amount of the "money" in our economy is not spent every year, this would significantly increase the tax base. Also, spending money stimulates economic growth and creates jobs.

Actually, recently interest rates have been dictated by price fixing of the libor.

No, we get that benefits cost money. Thanks for this amazing revelation.

But if paying 14 cents more per pizza at a crappy pizza chain is enough to get their employees health insurance, here's a ****ing quarter. Get the deluxe health plan.

Be sure and send 100,000,000 quarters. Per year.

Re: Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with co

I've got him on ignore for a reason. "Five year high" dollar doesn't mean **** compared to the last hundred years value of the dollar, of course, anyone who is looking objectively at the economy and not trying to spin bad political decisions of leadership would understand that. We have a ton of junk policy over decades from two parties and the bill is coming due, some companies are just being honest about what the worst policy in recent U.S. history is doing to the bottom line.
