seems to me less people are going on food stamps per year than before. that's a good thing. how do you intend to relate a reduced rate of dependency on food stamps with a failed obama presidency?
I don't have a huge issue with Food stamps in principle. They are a good canary in the coal mine statistic. Since the bulk of that graph is the Obama years, however, one cannot deny that a 12-13 million person spike in 4 years is not a good sign.

as i pointed out, the first 2 years of the obama presidency were spent stopping the bush recession from becoming a depression. under obama, the rate of food stamp increase leveled out immensely once the decline in our economy stopped. but hey, if you want to blame obama for problems that were caused before he took office, because he could not wave a magic wand and eliminate them after becoming president, that is your perogative and one you will find has much support on this forum.

And as has been pointed out numerous times, can't blame Bush for everything. Praise be Obama, but that tells us nothing about how you are going to get the same 12-13 million people off food stamps because the Administration's lack of any fiscal plan whatsoever leads me to believe they have no idea how to do it.

The plan is to keep doing what works. The economy is projected to create 12 million jobs over the next four eyars.
"The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich, and a magnificent house embellishes and sets off to the best advantage all the other luxuries and vanities which they possess. ... It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion."

Reagan had stagflation to deal with, an oil crisis and Iranian hostages (though they were released the second he took office)... he didn't spend a second bitching abbout Carter... or the crap military, economy and moral he left behind.

    He fixed it.

Parasite Nation... are like a one hit wonder... they can only sing one song, and that is it's the fault of someone else.
If Parasite Nation were honest, they would admit their Socialist Ponzi Schemes and overbearing and dimwitted regulations are responsible.

Re: Food stamps reach record 47.1 million

Food Stamps are the least damaging form of welfare we have. Sure, like anything else, there are abusers, but for the most part it just supplements low income families with basics that are mainly domestic.

I'd prefer more food stamps and less cash given away. I think it's the cash that disincentives' work and that there should be make-work opportunities so any cash can be "earned".

BTW, I was recently in AZ visiting my dying father. I went to an Albertsons Supermarket to get myself some emergency snacks. The prices were astonishing! I feel like it was twice the rices of Las Vegas (my hometown) and I already have seen the increase in food prices here. The person who cooks for me has my credit card and ove the last 3 years or so, my bill has gone from about $480 to about $720.

What also confuses me is that the parking lots of Albertsons, Walmart, Target etc. were jammed. At the current prices there seems to be no shortage of shoppers so how bad can things be really? Maybe they were all using food stamps?

Plus, for all the bitching about fuel prices (about $3.70 right now here), I see plenty of new SUVs driving around.

I've changed my mind zimmer. You are right. It would be much better if 47.1 million Americans were starving. I wish I could change my vote.

What happened to the first four? According to Obama he had a laser like focus on the economy. How often did we hear that? Last I recall... unemployment was higher than when he took office.

    That's talent.

If we could identify ourselves, I'd bet you a year's income on your prediction. It's malarkey... because Obama hasn't built the foundation to shoot an economic rocket... you have to build it from the ground up... and that foundation is wealthy people free and motivated to invest.

Parasite Nation hates these people. They fear they might make more money.

As food stamps grows 421,000 in a month, AdamT is predicting growth? ROTFLOL... what makes you believe that? Obama will grow government by that much?

I think its pretty pathetic your attacks on the "parasites". You bitch and moan about "class warfare" because Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich but then you come and attack people for taking federal assistance. I think its pretty pathetic and low.

Parasite Nation grows from dependence. Parasite Nations' motto: A dependent person is a good thing to have.

Parasite Nation fear some people making money, lots of money so they fark the masses in the process out of some perverse notion of "fairness".

Why not cut taxes, let freedom reign, and grow the economy by motivating people to be prosperous? Let them keep their money so they can create jobs?

But no... Parasite Nation is too Narrow too Envious to let that happen.

If Parasite Nation worked... why did Obama fail? He spent 6 Trillion.
