Papa John's CEO: Obamacare likely to raise costs, employee's hours being cut [W:387]

All by himself? Very impressive.

It is impressive....Because he probably paid more than his 'fair share' in taxes to go toward the things that you THINK give you the meme 'you didn't build that'....

So where did I say otherwise?

My point is BEFORE the election our friendly pie man attempted to influence voters by threatening a pay for pie price hike of a whooping 14 cents.

AFTER the election he now threatens his employees with reduced hours instead of the paltry price hike. Make this VERY clear, he isn't reducing the employee pay to cover the healthcare cost, an hour or two would do that. He is dropping their pay to avoid covering them under a plan he doesn't agree with politically not to mention he didn't want to cover them even with the much 'treasured' private healthcare coverage.

He knew that Obamacare would increase costs, but he wasn't sure whether or not it would remain in place. Whether or not he agrees with Obamacare is immaterial. It raises costs and those have to be absorbed somehow. Yeah, maybe he used this episode to make a political point, but to say that there is valid reason for his actions is to completely ignore the rules of economics

Great man...

I'd pay 14 cents more for Papa Johns... it is a great pie. I will not however support petty, unsavory punishing of his employees for an election loss.

PLENTY of other pizzas out there.

Well you might, but Papa John's doesn't really care that much. There are two ways to absorb higher costs, higher prices or reducing costs somewhere else. Pizza is an elastically priced good, a rise in price will prompt significantly fewer customers. Therefore, most of the cost hike will be borne by lowering costs.

edit -- wrong gazillionaire.

Pappa Johns does mostly a delivery business. Probably wouldn't do as well without roads and bridges....

Hey Adam, I got news for you, he pays taxes too....What does his tax money not count for some reason born out of your jealousy of not being as well off as he is? This is stupid. You libs want to attack those not paying their fair share, then I suggest you look within the group found to not be paying any federal income taxes at all, they use infrastructure as well, rather than the group that collectively pays something outrageous like 70% of all income tax paid into the system....

The problem with progressive liberalism is that it doesn't raise all boats, instead takes pleasure in sinking all to equality in misery....Not what I want to see in this country.

Then again he needs the money to pay the massive penalties for spam-texting his customers.

60 Trillion in unfunded liabilities.
16 Trillion of debt.
All due to Parasite Nation and their Socialist Legislation.

We can fight over tax rates... but there is no denying the mountain of debt created by Parasite Nation.

Good try... try again.

PS... High tax rates were due to war... then kept in place with oodles of loopholes... why not go back before that?
Because it shows what a Parasite Nation we've become... and how the proponents of Parasite Nation have bought into using the tax code to divide and conquer. To create envy. To create a Parasite Nation.

Totes dude. It isn't like the debt has been on a growing spree or anything.

Oh wait, we has. PresidentialDebt.org - U.S. National Deby by Presidential Term

And before you say BS on the source, it cites only government sources:

I was referring to not having any employees. However, I am willing to bet somewhere along the way he got some help as well. So spare me the right wing radio nonsense skippy.

You're right! It's about time Barrck Oabama got some appreciation from the right wing extremists.

Barrack Obama was completely right when, in the case of Papa John's Pizza, Papa John "didn't build that"!

It was really someone called John Schnatter.

Obama was correct and the left should spread the word.

then you should be clear in what you type rather than backpeddle when you get busted in your false narrative.

Suckers.

Such whining nonsense. Allow me to add to the discourse:

In response to recent remarks by Papa John's CEO John Schnatter that he planned to reduce workers hours in order to avoid paying for their health insurance, The Daily Show host took it upon himself to try to bring CEOs down to earth.

"Let's stop pretending that, suddenly, with this election, bosses have been transformed into reluctant assholes," Stewart said sarcastically.

Stewart noted that many business owners have always tried to find ways to curb employee benefits like pensions and health insurance: "Obamacare is just the latest excuse to rig a lot of the social contract," he said.

granted. That has some truth to it. However, a businessman would consider the PR part of it. People voted for Obama and voted for Obamacare. This clowns "threats" are only doing his PR image bad. He will drive away customers. Already on multiple sites there is a sh*tstorm brewing against Papa John, including reddit, threatening to boycott him.

It should be noted that the people did NOT vote for Obamacare. The majority of people did not want the mandate. Obamacare was voted on by crooked politicians in the middle of the night, much like thieves in the night.

Really smart guy? Now show me where the calls they made were in violation of the TCPA.

$500 per unsolicited text message is the relevant part. Some were bombarded with several per day. How come a foreigner knows this, while you live there and don't, smart guy?

Obamacare costs a lot. That's why they are giving out the pizzas for free now.

Obamacare is an operating cost. It is an expense that will never go away, and produce nothing for the business.

A Pizza give-away is advertising. It is a temporary expenditure of money in order to increase sales and overall increase revenue over your expenditure.

What you are doing here is business illiteracy; the failure to recognize the difference between the two.

What the heck were the American voters thinking this past election?

Romney and many GOP Senate candidates said they would follow the will of the people and repeal ObamaCare, but for some crazy reason some American voters did not give them the support they needed to get elected.

Technically both insurance and advertising costs are an expense.

The point being that pizza give aways are designed to generate net revenue; they aren't simply because Papa John's woke up and realized they had too much money. However, yes, both cost money

Technically the give away, or advertising, hope to increase gross sales by drawing in more future customers. Sorry.

Your other observations are spot on.

 you are repeating precisely my point.
