With the bonus that it's a distraction from Benghazi.

As soon as they connected the dots to know when he was vulnerable to personal blackmail, he should have been releived of command. Political expectations dont enter into it when national safety is a consideration in the discussion.

As soon as possible he should have been relieved, not when politically convenient.
You can be behind that simple idea or you can be wrong---your choice.
I don't think he was ever compromised. But the potential for it existed.

I think the fact that he resigned over the affair negates the chances that the affair could have ever been used to blackmail him. If the attempt were made, he would have just revealed it himself and resigned.

Back to square one. It's an excuse to cover the political truths.

The Criminal Probe could have centered on whether the threatening E-mails to Jill Kelley constuted a threat of bodily harm. "Keep away from my man!" is probably not a threat of bodily harm, by itself. But more investigation was needed to be sure that there was no threat.

Patreaus could probably not admit he knew who sent the E-Mails to Jill, without revealing his affair with Paula Broadwell.

Should Patraeus return to Afghanistan and be prosecuted under Afghan law for Adultery?

    A distraction from what?
"The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich, and a magnificent house embellishes and sets off to the best advantage all the other luxuries and vanities which they possess. ... It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion."

The legal part of it is whether or not he was still in the military or not when he started the affair. You can be punished under the UCMJ for adultery. I'm not one to buy into conspiracy theories, but unless he attends the congressional meetings regarding Benghanzi, then the timing is just too dubious.

Agreed, all the big guns and heavy hitters are lining up: NYT, National Enquirer, Rolling Stone, Washington Post, NBC...

Do you suppose there is any truth to the rumor that Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta are in Australia to apply for asylum?

Broadwell said the CIA were holding Libyan prisoners at the annex and that was the reason for the attack.

Petraeus should have his head examined.

But Broadwell’s father said Sunday his daughter is the victim of character assassination and implied the bombshell story is just a smoke screen for something bigger.

“This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out,” Broadwell’s dad, Paul Krantz, told the Daily News outside his home in Bismarck, N.D.

“There is a lot more that is going to come out,” said Krantz, claiming he was not allowed to elaborate. “You wait and see. There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.”
