Iran Fired On U.S. Drone In International Airspace: Pentagon

I understand post-election emotions are running high, but tying this to the President or extrapolating a grand narrative on US positional standing in the Middle East off of this incident is silly. This was likely an IRGC patrol that exceeded its engagement authority which is usually more aggressive than other formations, or part of standing instructions to show a strong face to all potential surveillance fliers (especially drones) near Iranian airspace and they went too far. I doubt this was a premeditated action, it would require a remarkable level of cohesion and command control over something so minor and for so little purpose.

Yeah so, about those unintended consequences of using drones ...

Hopefully, the next time it happens we'll scramble fighters and shoot the bastard down.

I'm saying even though Obama zombies and pro-drone folks will say drones are spectacular for our immediate interests, they will create long term problems.

You hope. ten characters.

Its been 5 pages, and I've yet to hear a real answer on how Obama's critics would respond differently.

Disarm unilaterally.

And I did give one serious action he not only should make, but must make if he wants any credibility with those kooks.

Invite I'minajihad to the White House... then go overseas and bad mouth America as Dems seem to do. Admit... it is America's fault and we will do better. Obama should even endorse their Gay Rights policy. Perhaps Michelle can do something on the nutrition front. Obama could invite I'minajihad over to do March Madness picks. Lots of options.

If they behave we can assist them with their peaceful program... so long as they share their energy production with Israel. (They want to... all in one pop!)

You've got to quit watching Fox. It's starting to severely distort reality for you. The election is over. You lost. Deal with it.

Disarm them unilaterally? And do you mean when you said he should sit down with them?

Amerikan Policy of the Foreign Kind
Unilaterally disarming, and bending over for a piece... I mean peace.
Ally, ally in come free!

The caption was cut off. It read: Obama practicing his comely over the shoulder look.

Gibbs needs to smack him on the back of the head.

One cruise missile into the airfield from which the fighter took off works for me.

That doesn't seem like the wisest response. This coming from someone who advocates more aggressive action against Iran.

I think we should bow, give I'minajihad a big bear hug, sit down with him and his Mullah's or the Mullah's and their puppet and ask them what they would like and how fast we can deliver it to them.

ohhh Zimmer get real, first we have to get down on our knees and beg forgiveness, and tell they how it's our fault. Then and only then can we do all that other stuff

Obama is a political *****.

He didn't allow this story to be reported when it occurred because it could adversely affect the election (Benghazi, anyone?). He complains to the Iranians and, of course, they ignore his weak ass.

We have four more years of this Wimp in the White House. Expect more incidents like this...with the same non-results. Sooner or later the Iranians will kill an American...with the same non-results.

So it goes.

Perhaps not. But it might serve as a giant deterrent to this sort of nonsense.

Iraq was selling tons of oil through Turkey during the Clinton years.
Bill was to much a ***** to do anything. How many times did he go to the UN for sanctions? 15?
Boy those sanctions work.
And they were proud. Maddie Albright even said 500,000 dead Iraqi kids "was worth the price"!

As long as their tankers stayed in the coastal waters of neighbors outside the international space, they were also able to ship it to refineries who washed it through with un-embargoed oil and shipped it out free of US sanction. It is just a political game. Money will find a way to overcome all political obstacles.

Weakness invites hostility. It invites danger.
Obama is weak, and they know it.

Yes yes you want to kill every one you don't like. We'r very very very well aware of your positions, even voted on them this Tuesday. I'm sure they wouldn't shoot at our drones if someone with "balls" like Romney or Bush was in office. 911 happened when some one with "balls" and no "brain" was in office. Come to think of it, when have our drones not been shot at when they fly over foreign air space.

Backwards is as backward does.

This is hilarious. I just spent ten posts arguing with people who are furious at the President because he continues to kill terrorists with drones. And then we have this.

It's becoming even more obvious that no matter what the President does, the right wing knee jerk opposition will criticize him.

Yeah, that's what Bin Laden and all of those other dead terrorists were saying, just before they died.

You don't start a confrontation with Iran unless you are prepared for a serious escalation, and launching a strike inside Iranian territory (as opposed to interdicting a combat air patrol) could lead to a spiral of activity before we are prepared for a general engagement.

LOL!!

Yeah, an old man and a bunch of people on the run. Really makes Obama a tough guy, doesn't it?

Do you REALLY have confidence that Obama will ever stand up to a COUNTRY?

I have never faulted Obama for continuing the fight against terrorists that Bush started.

The proper response would have been to send up our guys to either shoot down the Iranians or escort them back to Iran. There was plenty of time to do that, even though the military has obviously been told to say that we didn't have anyone near enough to respond.

Now, since the time for a proper response has passed, just as in Benghazi, the mighty Obama should tell the Iranians that we will shoot them down the next time they fire on our planes. Then, follow through with that response.

What's the difference what the proper response is? Obama isn't going to do anything and these sorts of probes will become more and more serious.

I don't think it is at all clear that there was time to react or if there were even assets in the area, I'm pretty sure the 'engagement' lasted a matter of seconds or minutes.

A few points I'd like to make for all those saying this is SUPER-SERIOUS AND NEEDS A STRONG RESPONSE!!!1

1. It was a cheap unmanned drone, not a manned airplane or even an expensive piece of unmanned equipment.
2. They fired on it...they didn't hit it.
3. All we have is the US government's say-so that it was in international airspace. I would hardly be surprised if we were flying them into Iranian airspace and that's where it was shot at.
4. Who the **** cares? It's a drone.

Agreed, it's as if Obama is synonymous with Satan.
