I understand post-election emotions are running high, but tying this to the President or extrapolating a grand narrative on US positional standing in the Middle East off of this incident is silly. This was likely an IRGC patrol that exceeded its engagement authority which is usually more aggressive than other formations, or part of standing instructions to show a strong face to all potential surveillance fliers (especially drones) near Iranian airspace and they went too far. I doubt this was a premeditated action, it would require a remarkable level of cohesion and command control over something so minor and for so little purpose.
