Iran Fired On U.S. Drone In International Airspace: Pentagon

What specifically are these unique sanctions that Obama masterminded that have never been used before?

whatever they were irans currency is worth, what, 10% of what it was before the sanctions? unfortunately china is probably supplying them with US dollars, since they have truckloads of them in storage.

Why am I not getting 10 times the gas for an American Greenback then?

Are you saying if the US was using "manned" recon planes Iran would not have fired (reacted) at the plane in international waters?

Seems to me, Iran is trying to provoke a response (military) from the US.

Perhaps it is the fact that we have been using unmanned drones to kill people in countries we do not control and are not at war with for the last several months. Perhaps a drone being 16 miles away from Iran's borders, given their current uses, was a threat they did not want to take lightly. Perhaps they were sending a warning that a drone that isn't intended for surveillance can and will be targeted in the future. Perhaps it is Iran's way of saying they're quite willing to invest in battle with the U.S.

I'm saying even though Obama zombies and pro-drone folks will say drones are spectacular for our immediate interests, they will create long term problems.

So Pres Bush II was weak?

Yeah... after 911 he did nothing.

Here is one for ya... worldwide intel about Iraq was wrong; but Saddam played it as if he had WMD and Blix even believed it and testified he was playing games.... NOW...

Do you know how and when we found out about Iran's nuke program, and what was won on the nuke front from taking on Iraq?

Didn't Biden say that Obama would be tested? Oh crap that was the first 4 years. Maybe he was off a bit is all.

Obama will do everything in his power to avoid war with Iran, period. He doesn't want that stain on his legacy of Obamacare, killing OBL, and then war with the ME. Sorry couldn't come up with anything else Obama has done so I threw in Obamacare to help out, although disclaimer, it's not exactly a great thing, and OBL was a no brainer call my dog could have barked that one out. :)

Tim-

what? irans currency dropped, ours didnt rise. one dollar is worth ~40,000+ rials. their currency is worthless

So how should we respond?

Invite I'minajihad to the White House... then go overseas and bad mouth America as Dems seem to do. Admit... it is America's fault and we will do better. Obama should even endorse their Gay Rights policy. Perhaps Michelle can do something on the nutrition front. Obama could invite I'minajihad over to do March Madness picks. Lots of options.

If they behave we can assist them with their peaceful program... so long as they share their energy production with Israel. (They want to... all in one pop!)

So what would be strong to you then? If Bush was weak after 9/11, what you have proposed he do? Nuke every country that didn't denounce the attack?

So international law means nothing to Iran?

"An Iranian attack aircraft fired at least twice at an unarmed U.S. drone conducting routine surveillance in international airspace over the Persian Gulf, " from the OP link.

It was an recon unarmed drone.

Unilaterally disarming, and bending over for a piece... I mean peace.

The caption was cut off. It read: Obama practicing his comely over the shoulder look.

No more than manned recon planes.

So we don't still buy their oil through third parties? Keep dreaming.

After the collapse of communism, there was no exchange rate whatsoever with Russia, but a LOT of trade happened. It is just a matter of arranging for the right middlemen and trading for the right goods through straw parties. It just makes it more expensive for Iran but I have yet to hear of people starving in the streets over these "crippling" sanctions.

Apparently they can still afford war planes.

well, they have something of a domestic industry, which they can keep running even in the absence of currency provided their people will cooperate.

give it time. sanctions arent tactical nukes, but they work mid-long term.

I'm not saying it was okay for them to do what they did. I'm saying perhaps they did it for the reasons listed.

So you don't know how we should respond?

I've provided serious answers... just like Obama saying he would meet with the terror nation without preconditions. I think Obama really meant he would meet them without having a cold or flu. He didn't want to spread the bug. He wanted to be sure they heard him denounce the USA loud and clear.

Seriously... first thing he does is say... that meeting asshole. Forget it. That's a first step any 3-year old would do... tick... tick... tick...

(He never should have granted them a meeting... that was dumb.)

Its been 5 pages, and I've yet to hear a real answer on how Obama's critics would respond differently.

Yeah so, about those unintended consequences of using drones ...

It was a maritime surveillance patrol, it could have happened with a manned plane just as easily. This has nothing to do with drones as a piece of military technology.

I seem to recall a certain country not suffering any adverse consequences for forcing a US plane to make an emergency landing after it was engaged off its shores. Isn't like we can taser them into submission when push comes to shove with "international law"

Iraq was selling tons of oil through Turkey during the Clinton years.
Bill was to much a ***** to do anything. How many times did he go to the UN for sanctions? 15?
Boy those sanctions work.
And they were proud. Maddie Albright even said 500,000 dead Iraqi kids "was worth the price"!
