Boeing Announces Big Layoffs in Defense Division

I read that CEO's were sending letters to all their employes pre-election saying if Obama gets elected their job may be in danger. I think there is some truth to this but its also a scare tactic. The taxes will require businesses to lay off workers, but I think that was also a ploy to get Romney elected.

Not surprising. There's some unease at the Defense Contractor my wife works for (DynCorp Intl.) and the word going around their office was that Lockheed Martin would be sending pink slip notifications soon to a large number of employees.

Apparent Obama didn't want this stuff going on before the election, so they told these companies they cover their legal costs.

I'm telling you that they didn't delay it. Its part of a continuing program that started 2 years ago.

Though you offer no link to unbiased proof of your statement that Boeing did not delay this even one day?

Then I must assume your statement-of-fact is nothing more then an educated guess.

Fair enough.

It's obvious that Barrack Obama should buy Boeing and any other companies in distress in order to save jobs.

This is what the Unions would want, as well as his political supporters.

Yep, conservatives hate government spending ... until it comes time to actually cut government spending. Then it's all, "what what?! You mean government spending actually supports private sector jobs?!"

Astonishing.

Vegas Employer: Obama Won, So I Fired 22 Employees

November 7, 2012

LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) — A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

“Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way. Elections do have consequences, but so do choices. A choice you make every day has consequences and you know what, I’ve always put my employees first, but unfortunately today I have to put me and my family first, and you watch what’s gonna happen. I’m just one guy with 114 employees — well was 114 employees — watch what happens in the next six months. The Dow alone lost 314 points today. There’s a tsunami coming and if you didn’t think this election had consequences, just wait.”

The result of Obama's policy or just a revenge?

California, well i see their going to be doing just fine.

closings of business, and an increase in taxes.

This is what voters voted for. Its "the will of the people."

I have seen a list of about 20 recognizable big name companies that have announced layoffs in the last 48 hours.

All large companies here, except the power company, closed down during Obama's first term, as did many small businesses.

Since the election, small businesses are announcing closing at an increasing rate. The popwer plant also has indicated it probably will not repair one nuke nor continue to maintain that existing one and probably will not proceed with plans to build two additional ones. The only mall also is closing after the first of the year, half its store fronts empty. Collectively, that will take unemployment in this area to around 25%. 40% if you don't count government employment.

But business is evil and should all shut down anyone because that is most eco-friendly and will be the best revenge against people who sold their souls to work for evil business owners. collectively this should significantly increase inflation, which helps reduce the value of the growing national debt too.

The result of Obama's policy or just a revenge?

Across the country people are finding out that not everyone makes their decisions and exists to worship Obama or to live from politically-correct "progressive" platitudes and fantasy. Intelligent people look out for themselves and the loved ones. Millions of people will have made the sacrifice for Obama by mid February next year, just like millions now still suffer 2 weeks later after Hurricane Sandy for the platitudes of unionism.

Obama and "progressives" can't make everyone be slaves of the government, not yet anyway. Those who have the means to bailout of it are, before Obama's "revenge" fully hits. Anyone who loses their job, home, everything rightly should demand Obama provide all their needs from now as just as he promised he'll do. Obama owes those 22 families housing, food, transporation, all medical care, educations, clothes, and discretionary money for vacations and entertainment too.

The only people that are going to do well are either in government or are rich. No one more protects and profits the rich than Obama.

More bad news to come.

I hope every one of those employees who didn't get their notice in the mandated time sues Boeing for everything they can, and that Boeing get's exactly nada from the government.

if you had bothered to read the article, in it there is a direct quote from Boeing wrt these layoffs.
Assume all you want, but you'll still be wrong.

More bad news to come.

One of the problems of the bubble was a large number of unneccesary management jobs. It is not just boeing, but a number of companies. This restructuring is not a bad thing for the strength of american companies. Too many high paid chiefs and not enough workers. There are way too many executives leaching company profits while they play farmville all day long and do nothing for the company. Yes, it means these useless twats we know as stupidvisors are out on their collective asses and the company can have just a few of them who can do the jobs they used to have many doing. Despite it hurting people, these are the cuts that need to happen.

The next place these cuts need to hit hard is our education system. I am not talking about cutting teachers, but rather high paid administrators, shrinks, and unnecessary supervisors ho are paid a lot and just seem to mung up the system. Our school systems do not need more money, they need less administration and bull**** shrink positions. For one administrator you could hire 5 teachers. Each teacher has a number of supervisors all second guessing each other and making their job so much harder. It is time to make it efficient and get rid of the dead weight.

Comics like dilbert were not just funny jokes, they were the reality of overblown corporate america. We don't need a million stupidvisors. We don't need people whose job is to make meetings and go to meetings. That just ups the expenses of these companies by employing the useless. In the end that inefficiency keeps us from being competative. While we are at it anyone with the HR title who get paid high salaries for screwing people can find themselves on the unemployment line also.

Too much money for too little work being done. That was mittens way, and it cannot be the way of america if we want to compete. If you can get the same job done with fewer people then it is time to cut the dead weight. It is better than shipping the jobs overseas where they run on that principle. Whether or not we have to force it like we have with insurance companies who are limited in their pay to executives, or whether or not companies like boeing do it on their own to make themselves stronger it needs to be done. We cannot afford to employ the useless anymore.

More bad news to come.

Boeing always lays off and hires...its always feast and famine...if they get contracts for new planes they hire...if theres a lull they lay off...

What a load of BS. Do you think we should borrow from /china to invest in defense spending for arms "jobs".

Other sectors should grow besides the military industrial complex which was artificially inflated in the Bush era and drained our country for nothing.

Have any of you read this speech or understood the history?

Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

Should we start wars so we can increase military spending and fuel the armaments industry? Are any of you really ready to join that club?

Why are you so afraid of investing in American infrastructure or American people?

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Boeing has to compete. It was great for them when our wars were pumping lots of money into their company. They were able to hire a bunch of unnecessary management types and not worry about how they leach from the company without providing anything. now they have to let those people go, and good riddance. We can't just keep having expensive wars so they can keep making military equipment. It is true, they cannot afford to pay health care for useless managers on top of their salary. So they make themselves more efficient and are not overblown.

It is the correction America needs to be leaner and more efficient. It is time for people to work, and if you can't do that then you don't deserve the big salary. The useless can sit at home and live off of welfare. they can sell their big cars, huge houses, and live in section 8 housing. With less people there Boeing and other companies will actually have to keep their hard workers. Lean companies have no use for the guys who spend more time and effort trying to figure out how to not work. After years of covering for their useless asses while they make the same or more than I do for far less work, I don't give a **** if they rot in the gutters with the other useless people.

Let me put the hierarchy of uselessness in simple terms for you.

You have the workers who 50 percent are useful. Then you have a team lead who manages the workers and issues. They normally get the brunt of the work put on them. Then you have a stupidvisor for your department. They pretty much are a copy of the team lead, but their job is to go to meetings while the team lead does the work. Then you have a multi-department stupidvisor. This person doesn't talk to employees, and they pretty much kiss the ass of some VP at meetings. They do some budgeting, but often that falls down on the recommendations of the team lead. Then you start getting into the executive level. The executives have concerns about expansion and profit decisions.

So really as a worker you have 1 team lead who does the management, and 2 other stupidvisors or more who get paid a lot of money to do nothing. Kill off one of the middle stupidvisors, and just have one stupidvisor deal with multiple team leads. Really, you end up cutting the individual department stupidvisors and can get rid of any number of completwely useless people who don't do anything. You have to remember all those stupidvisors play a game called try to keep your job. That is their big responsibility to try and justify why they work there by stealing credit and making up bull**** work.

Losing these people is not a bad thing. They actually reduce productivity. They normally do not work together and come around to people doing the job and tell them 3 or four different ways they want things done, none of which correspond with what the others have said, or what you need to do.

Oh, and if we don't want to pay their welfare we can do like the japanese and make fatal game shows and make the fat useless twats compete and die. We could call it the hunger games or something and make money on entertainment where people get to watch their old annoying stupidvisors fight to the death.

Of course there may be more to the story.

Obama Administration Goes After Boeing to Protect Unions

if you had bothered to read the article, in it there is a direct quote from Boeing wrt these layoffs.

A direct quote from Boeing? Are you serious? I said an unbiased source - Boeing is not unbiased in this matter.

So, you have no links to unbiased factual proof that the WH did not request Boeing to delay the layoffs until after the election.

Noted.

Have a nice day.

Funny how capitalism works. Why don't those who believe in the 'free market' take the time to view the video embedded in the OP link?

Here's a clue
Obama's Victory & the US Defense Budget
Carter Copeland, Barclays aerospace and defense analyst, explains why he has a buy rating on Boeing, and discusses the impact Obama's second term win could have on the U.S. defense budget.

The business will pick up once they start installing democracy again. Airlines are losing money with so much excess capacity.

Taxing themselves into prosperity. I spoke with a buddy who has a company in SoCal, and I asked him why he isn't moving. He said... moving is for those who cannot afford CA... we can. He simply passes the costs of his high end products onto the wealthy that can afford his luxury items. Many can't. To think... CA was once a business friendly state.

I have seen a list of about 20 recognizable big name companies that have announced layoffs in the last 48 hours.
And all the small businesses... the tens of thousands that never get reported.

Parasite Nation comes with costs.

This is just the tip of the iceberg..........Standby for heavy rolls to port.
Yep... small business was the driving engine... Parasite Nation just dropped a ton of water in the fuel line.

Announced the day after the election?

Coincidence?
There was Hope. We got more Change.
Parasite Nation doesn't realize their idiotic decisions do not happen in a vacuum... elections have consequences.

Now that's funny.

You ask for proof that the program of downsizing management at Boeing has been going on for two years and when I point to a quote from boeing you claim its hardly unbaised.

do you realize how absolutely idiotic that sounds?

truly amazing.

<insert any sarcastic dismissal of your choice here>

What is amazing is what the heck are you talking about?

I didn't ask for that - did you even read my post? Obviously not. Where EXACTLY did I ask for specifically that?

I never once doubted that Boeing planned the layoffs for two years. I even said that I knew about it.

My ENTIRE point was that the Obama admin. asked Boeing to delay the date for the latest layoff until after the election. Even if it was for only one day.

I asked for proof that they did not in fact do that...Sheesh.

Please do not respond to my posts in the future if you are not going to bother to read them.

 I meant only that Boeing had broken the law. You want to rant about the evil corporations up in their corporate buildings being all corporationy  I couldn't care less.

This is what voters voted for. Its "the will of the people."
will of the people?

when what can the WILL translate into.

can this will be used to take from others? meaning money or physical property.

will of the people, means to me.....majority rule........something that is evil

the founders hated it.
