I just really don't see the big deal, other than the novelty, which is most likely the underlying reason for their further incorporation.
You don't. Apparently it's a really big deal to some people.

I see the electorate, regardless of who is elected, as retards, to be honest.
So I don't see the benefit of further incorporation.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

Just what we need. A borderline 3rd world country becoming a state. They'd instantly become the State with highest murder rate and most corruption.

Exactly. Hawai'i of the East Coast. Like Hawai'i put a Naval base there... shut one down that isn't on our shores and open it up there. All that defense spending that goes to that base will benefit a US state rather than another country. This will increase even more tourism of navy family members coming to visit as well. The military prescence will also be a much needed show of force because from what I understand, Puerto Rico has experienced a HUGE rise in drug related gang activity.

Why did Hawaii see an increase when they became a state? Remember, they were also a territory that voted statehood. It is the idea of an island being a state. A novelty if you will. No, really I do not know

Oh thank god those dozens of people were arrested. It is well over 9000 times more drug related arrests here in the US

    Also to note:

"We have been asking the federal government to help us patrol ... the Puerto Rican coasts, which we are unable to cover entirely by ourselves," Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno said Wednesday. "We want them to help us protect it in the same way they protect the borders with Mexico and Canada."

And lastly, LOLOLOLOLOL at "we have ours under control"

Becoming a state won't change anything, people have been able to go there for years without a passport, there are regular planes and ships that go there, just nobody is really that interested.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.
