65% favored statehood. Prepare the 51st star.
    YAY!

Mississippi will have some real competition, in the poorest state of the union.

I honestly think people want to add Puerto Rico for the novelty of adding another state, rather than anything really substantive.

I don't know...I figure tourism will boom there if they become a state. Kind of like Hawaii did. It could be beneficial to everyone. We can't really say things will get worse from this addition

Then why are we so concerned about Puerto Rico voting Democratic? Mississippi hasn't voted for a Democrat for President since 1976. Which is the only time since the 1950s.

    Why would it change?
Americans can go there now without a passport.

Why would that be a factor?

They'll have to get their crime rate under control, first.

I don't care who they vote for.
I just really don't see the big deal, other than the novelty, which is most likely the underlying reason for their further incorporation.

While that would be neat, I'm really more interested in their self-determination. If they want to become a State and fulfill the requirements, then they should.
