First Openly Gay Senator Elected

Its officially a democrat world. Getting excited about an elected public official because she's gay.

I guess some things are more important than doing the job one is elected to do.

It's too bad she's not a Republican. You guys wouldn't be able to stop congraulating yourselves.

One day we'll have two men in the White House with children.

One day we'll have an atheist in the WH.

One day we'll have a woman as president in the WH.

One day we'll have a president who is neither a republican or a democrat.

Perhaps one day we'll have a president who can balance the budget.

What's your point?

The more we break down, and step over the IGNORANT biases that some people have towards others, the better chance we'll have of getting a president who can actually accomplish something wonderful.

Nobody said that.

In fact, I'd say her political position has to be pretty damn strong to over-come the bias people would have of her being gay.

The point being, perhaps it was her political prowess that got her elected in spite of her being gay.

Which is a step forward in our country no matter how you slice it.

Nobody gets elected to a government position "because they are gay".

it's just damn nice to see that people can overlook that and vote for her any way.

Untwist your panties and look at it for what it is. Not for what your overly-biased eyes color it as.

I'm still confused why this matters. Why is anyone's sexual orientation, religion, race, or creed even remotely related to their ability to their jobs?

It only matters in that some people think being gay means you can't function "normally" in our society and do anything worthwhile or even equal with somebody who is straight.

As these barriers are broken down it'll become more and more obvious that being gay should have no impact at all on how you're treated.

To be more specific - it shouldn't matter.

Trouble is that for many it does.

Obviously for at least one state's majority, it doesn't. Which shows progress.

But, what kind of job is she going to do for the country? Ultimately, being gay doesn't speak to her ability to make laws.

Well I guess we'll find out.

And it's funny that you point it out because a lot of people prefer being against gays doing or being anything - ever. . . just because they're gay. Being gay doesn't mean you are also unable to do said good job in your line of work.

this true but its still a good thing that her being gay didnt negatively impact her and it was possible for her to get elected. Things like these show america is growing and getting better on social issues which we are behind on IMO.

She may do a ****ty job, thats a different topic.

Nope. But thank goodness her being gay didn't infringe upon her rights and abilities to gain office. That's the point of congratulations.

Judge her on her ability to do the job, not her sexual preferences. As it should be.

don't care who she has sex with... but I can't say i'm enamored with her positions on issues. ( which is par for the course with "progressive" politicians.)

doesn't matter much, she doesn't represent my state, so she's rather irrelevant to me.
Well, that is a silly statement, if your state is part of the union it matters, after all a senator from Texas can vote on a obamacare just as a local senator could, if we had them (DC). Like it or not the house and senate effect all of us.

Ultimately, being gay doesn't speak to her ability to make laws.

You might want to ask some of your staunch conservative/religious buddies. I think they'll have a different opinion on that matter.

Well I guess it's good that for once we have a senator that isn't a Republican against gay marriage but secretly cheating on their wife with a dude. Way to much of that nowadays. Other than that meh.

I never said it made a difference. Did I?

Unless she get's voted out and it's going to be because she' gay.

So, jad she lost being gay would have been the reason?

So, jad she lost being gay would have been the reason?

uhm who said that? certainly not me lol
who knows what the reason could have been if she had lost, could of been 100s of reasons, what topic are you trying to discuss, its seems you are all over the place

She looks halfway normal. The big problem with so many lesbians is that they REALLY hate straight men. ManOman. There is no other bigotry or hatred worse than the hatred of the real dykes. It's part of the pathology that overwhelms their lives and reason. Most men run into them working in hardware stores, in my area, twice in the paint dept. at Home Depot. They want you dead!
