No, they can not. Who is going to bring suit? You have to establish standing. The courts wont even be able to try this.

no, i'm just saying that such a case isnt neccessarily binding on a future decision by a far more rightwing court than the one that squashed race-based marriage discrimination in loving vs virginia.

Not true...The SCOTUS does not like to interfere in states rights.........Constitutional amendments are much harder to break then DOMA............DOMA has already been overturned in 6 states.

On a side note the last activist judge in Iowa who approved SSM was voted out last night..........

States do not have the right to ignore the US constitution NP. State constitutional amendments are no harder for the courts to overturn than a federal law. DOMA has not been overturned by any state. It has been ruled unconstitutional by judges, which is an entirely different thing.

And states are required to recognize the marriage licenses of other states. How does this not result in gay marriage being accepted across the country legally?

Furthermore, what are any of you afraid of? This is GREAT time to get into the gay wedding planning business.

And if you need society to tell you what your marriage is worth, you should not be married.

Dude, seriously....straight people have no hope planning gay weddings. We simply lack the fashion and decorative sense of gay people(I assume the genes are connected). True story: My niece's girlfriends brother(who is gay) was over the other night and asking about decorating plans for christmas. When we asked him if he would like to do the decorations for us, the look of relief in his face was hilarious.

A state is the only one with the right to legalize gay marriage. Good for Maryland, Maine, and all the other states that have banned it as well.

Obama will get at least one more, probably two and possibly three more appointments. I thank GOD every day that President Obama will be able to save our Supreme Court and protect it for at least the next generation.

point is the supreme court could block gay marriage if they so chose, i've yet to see a valid argument why they could not. don't get me wrong i support gay marriage and voted in favor of it here in florida not too many years ago (it is now banned, unfortunately), just looking at this objectively.
