Gay marriage is approved by popular vote in Maine, Maryland

NP... you do realize that you can no longer go around and say that SSM has been defeated every time it's been put up for a vote, right?

Yes I understand that CC........You do realize that the Federal Gov. does not recognize SSM and that these states that have approved it will end up in the SCOTUS for the final decision on the issue. As Yogi Berra once said and I paraphrase "Its not over until its over.":)

In YOUR opinion. In my opinion, the things I'm seeing are demonstrating that the country is BEING saved.

See how that works?

both you and Tigger are wrong-its a minor issue that has gotten far more attention than it deserves. in the great scheme of things its a pimple on a soon to erupt volcano of financial malaise

You do know that SSM couples receive no Federal Benefits right?

You realize that has jack **** to do with what I said?

So how does it feel to know that the tide has turned and more and more gays are going to be getting married? Just think, it could be 2013 when SCOTUS rules DOMA illegal. You could live to see a gay wave in this country!

Kinda like gun issues? All that overblown hysteria over a tool to extend your penis?

Boy, I'm sure that helps you sleep at night.

I disagree. It's an example of the country moving in a more positive direction. It's not the whole thing... nor did I say it was.

And I don't buy into the whole "the economy is falling, the economy is falling" stuff, turtle. I think you know that. The economy may not be booming, but it's not ready for the trash compacter either. Not even close.

And this gives MORE credibility to SCOTUS recognizing it... something that I predict will occur, regardless.

I'm predicting that is when NP dies from a massive stroke.

you ought to stick to supporting gay marriage rather than pretending to be a psychologist. Real constitutional rights are more important than ones that may or may not be recognized by the Ninth and may or may not apply to the states via the 14th

SO basically you think your opinion is more important than others. Somehow I disagree.

I'm trying to understand this whole thing. Do gay people want the same benefits or the title of marriage?
Actually this brings up a good point I want to make.

It's partly about giving LGBT folks equal rights, but maybe more importantly, it's about facilitating a change in the perception of Americans. It's about encouraging people to view more and more people as equal and leave prejudices behind. If we can get more states to legalize gay marriage, it helps Americans realize that this is the right path, that this is the morally correct path to equality.

Simply giving gay people the same benefits without the same title is meaningless. Giving people the right to the same title sort of helps equalize the perception of marriage.

EDIT: LOL does what I just typed make a lick of sense?

Tell us again how repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell will lead to a mass exodus from the military and how Washington state will never approve same sex marriage at the ballot box. How much you wanna bet on DOMA when it has already been struck down by several appeals courts and the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on it next session?

That issue has not been resolved my left wing friend....There are many absentee ballots to be counted.........I wouldn'y count my chickens before they hatch if I were you...

the New Deal did not destroy the economy either just as smoking dozen cartons of cigarettes normally cause lung cancer alone. But what we see is an accentuation of the problems that will ultimately destroy the economy. Each time you smoke another carton you get closer to the critical mass that starts the malignancy.

I realize those who see social freedom-abortion, the repeal of anti sodomy laws, and gay marriage-as extremely important may vote for a candidate that supports these things EVEN if they understand that his economic policies and judicial picks hasten the destruction. What is silly are those who vote dem on abortion or gay rights pretend that the stuff they don't care about is important to their choices

Come on, NP. Face it... it's passed. I was thinking about you, last night, when I heard. Just accept it.

I dont think a groups civil rights are a minor issue.

I think that if a trained psychiatric doctor were to say something like that his opinion would carry more weight than someone who says something that has no basis on fact and has no training in the area. its why those who wish to give expert opinions in court are required to meet a "Daubert test" and those who cannot are prevented from giving opinions

To be honest with you I don't care about DOMA.......Those 32 states that have consitutional amendments defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman is more important.

I dont think a groups civil rights are a minor issue.

I would agree but these are mainstream civil rights that apply to everyone. NOw I support gay marriage, SSM marriage and I think gays ought to serve in the military, but this is a minor issue to most americans.

Yeah and that's a shame, just 32 more birds we need to get stones for.

How is your marriage harmed if Dave wants to Marry Steve or if Valerie wants to call Mary her wife?
How are you hurt if Bruce goes into a diabetic coma and Bill has the same rights to make medical decisions due to a legal document they signed that I have for my wife?

Come on, NP. Face it... it's passed. I was thinking about you, last night, when I heard. Just accept it.

CC show me where it has been called in Washington. Its true SSM has a little lead here but it is far fro a done deal my friend.

Your opinion of what the New Deal did differs greatly from mine. I saw it as giving penicillin to someone with pneumonia.

I don't see any candidate with any awesome plan to dramatically fix the economy. Minor changes 'tis all I see. I certainly didn't see either candidate as one who's economic policies or judicial picks destroying anything. The economy is not going to fall apart. This is catastrophizing hooey. There will be valleys and hills. There always are. No one is going to do something so dramatic as to destroy the ecosystem. Those that believe Obama will don't know what they are talking about. Might things get worse? Maybe. Might they get better? Maybe. Will they be destroyed? Nah.

Many Americans may consider it a minor issue but I dont think they should. We should all care about equal treatment under the law for every citizen. Thats all im trying to say.
