Warning -- the video is hard to watch. It made me cry.

This is the damage that rapists cause, especially the ones who rape kids.

When subscribers check to see Brie Lybrand's latest YouTube video, they're expecting to watch one of her typical, upbeat beauty and shopping tutorials. So when "The New Orleans Beauty Guru" posted her latest video entitled "A Message To My Rapist," the world took notice.

Lyrbrand, a former pageant star, appears shaken and makeup-free as she makes her unexpected announcement. "I just got an email from YouTube saying that the man who raped me for most of my life subscribed to me," she says with disgust. "The man that took my virginity, robbed me of an innocence has subscribed to me on YouTube and is watching my videos."

The aspiring actress and Tulane graduate looks directly into the camera as she reveals that it was her father who abused her. "My father, Steven Bressler, molested, tortured and raped me from the time I was four until I was 13 years old," she says.

As the video progresses, Lybrand describes how she grew up to become her high school's cheerleading captain, go to college and become both and actor and a teacher. One of the most shocking visuals of the clip comes when she displays the three guns she's purchased for protection. "I don't have to be afraid anymore. Let me show you my weapon collection, dad," she says. "I carry guns everywhere I go in case you decide to show up... You're never going to touch me again."

Wow. Holy crap, if she's faking it she deserves a freaking Oscar. She brought tears to my eyes. I want to kill him myself. My god, the poor child. :(

I can't help but wonder why no one in her family was able to get justice?

I didn't watch the video but I know that in some states there is a statute of limitations on these types of crimes...sadly.

So, uh....now we know who the dude is. And by "we", I mean, all of her other subscribers...her fans. Seems to me as getting his address shouldn't be to much of a biggy. After all, he has a youtube account. At the least, finding his IP addy should be no stretch for the right sorts of folks.

I'm not saying this guy should be getting a visit sometime soon...because that would be advocating vigilante justice.

But you know...it's out there.

This kind of news is very tragic. I am glad she took a stand and shed light on what happened. There are thousands of women and men who have similar stories of sexual abuse as children. I have a friend that went through sexual abuse as a child. When he was an adult, he finally convinced the police to wiretap him and he got a confession out of his abuser. After not hearing back from the police for several weeks, he contacted them and they said they couldn't do anything because the statue of limitation was up 6 months prior to him getting the confession from his perpetrator.

There should be no statue of limitation on this. The effect it has on a person is with them their entire life. I am still dealing with witnessing my father sexually abuse my brother when I was around 5 or 6. That memory is still fresh in my mind like it happened today. My deepest sympathies for all who have suffered. I understand what they are going through.

I'd bet it's a statute of limitations issue. Why there's a statute of limitations on rape in some places, I don't know. Maybe they think there are too many problems with people's memories after too much time. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with Brie Lybrand's memory.

She's an actress...

Not to be unkind... but I am not sure I believe her..

an argument for the death penalty if there ever was one.

Death would be too good for the scumbag. I'd like to see him spend life in prison rooming with a huge assbandit cellmate named Butch McDick.

Good on Brie for going online to share her horror. What happened to her disgusts me beyond description.

Let me make clear:

No human being should ever be raped!

I see very often when people are upset by a heinous crime and they want the criminal to go to prison and get raped. However, if we live by the principle that no one should get raped, then that should not happen even to a terrible criminal. We should not be a country that tortures via rape in our prisons. We should not want violent prisons in general. We should not want rape violence; we should not want assault violence. Most people who go to prison eventually come out. It's not in our best interests to have people coming out who have been brutalized and have become accustomed to a culture of violence. That just leads to more violence in the real world.

Believe me, I understand the anger. My instinct tells me to hit Brie's father in the face with a baton and then kick him where it counts, but just because that's what I feel does not mean it would be the right thing to do. If I found a 280 pound bully to anally rape him, I would be just as bad as he is.

The cycle of violence will never be stopped by more violence!

He should go to prison and have to lose all his freedoms for the rest of his life. But raped, no. We should not become like him.

Wowowow this hits close to home:(

The exact same things happened to my sister beginning at the age of 4. She came out to our family when she was about 28 years old, after our relative who did this to her passed away.

I did see her get abused, getting beaten for no apparent reason and other things. Once I thought back upon it, things started to become clear.

Everyone else in my family hates her guts after she came out. I have seen first hand that things like this can be kept quiet for many many years. Emotions just bubble to the surface and explode. It is very sad to witness.

Obviously if the dad did what she said he is a sociopath. I wonder if he is crazy enough to sue her for slander. Even if he did it he could try to make her life hell if he made her try to prove it. I hope she saved some kind of evidence. Ineresting way to try and get back at him.

amen brother, caught some flack in another thread for saying that, glad to see i'm not the only one who thinks 'butch mcdick' is a valid punishment for pure evil.

How can you accept this at face value?

Perhaps she was horribly abused.. and if so why did she wait? She doesn't appear to have suffered any memory loss.

This could be an audition tape.

There was a fat RN.. a single mom at one of my hospitals .. all three of her daughter were knocked up by age 13...

She was venting and said "she suddenly remembered being molested by her father and that was the reason for her obesity"..

This young woman is in control of her faculties.. Why did she wait for a YouTube moment?

My sister used Facebook.

I don't believe anyone "suddenly remembers being molested". Children who are abused at a young tend to be withdrawn. They keep these things to themselves. Especially if the ones committing these heinous acts are the ones who are supposed to be protecting them.

^this. the kids are shocked. it takes years, sometimes decades, for them to come to terms with what they have to do to resolve the issues: BRING THE SCUMBAG TO JUSTICE.

I can't help but wonder why no one in her family was able to get justice?

You're assuming two things here that you really shouldn't when it comes to child abuse cases: the first, of course, is that the family court system is even remotely competent or functional... and the second is that her family actually wanted justice.

If this is all true, she's a wonderfully strong young woman. I pray her great success.

Assuming that it's true, am I the only person that really isn't surprised by the turn of events?

The guy is her dad. Yes, he's a terrible human being, and he should be in jail for the rest of his life if he raped his daughter as a child, but she's still his biological child. I don't find it that unusual that he's still interested in her life and that he subscribed to her youtube channel to keep up to date on what she's doing.

Incest like this is unforgivable. The only thing this man can do now to enhance this woman's life is to stay the hell away from her.

I know what you mean -- this is so ugly, most adults (family, prosecutors, judges, juries) would strongly prefer the victim remain silent, so they don't have to face what happened. And many people failed this woman -- all her teachers, all her neighbors, all her extended family -- anyone who should have suspected and did nothing to try and help.

I had a social worker tell me once that if you put any ten women in a room, one is a survivor of rape, one is a survivor of domestic violence and one is an incest survivor. ANY ten women -- even ten US Senators. I hate to think that this is so common, but I am fully aware of the power of denial and the desire for silence from victims, so it's possible.

There aren't many little kids in my immediate orbit, but for some of you reading this, there could be. Read about the symptoms a child victim of sexual abuse will exhibit, and if you see such behavior, speak up.

I couldn't find a web site that seemed reliable for this purpose, so I'm going to PM Captain Courtesy and ask him to recommend one.

The bottom line is, any adult in this woman's orbit as she was growing up could have saved her this agony (at least part of it), and blessed her with the justice she deserved. ALL of us should be courageous enough to be the hero for a child we suspect may be suffering in this way.

What about this situation gives you the impression he cares about enhancing her life? I understand that it's hurtful to the woman that he did it, I'm just not surprised. He was a ****ty abusive dad, but he's still her dad, and at some level most likely still cares about her in some way. I've seen that happen before.
