TEHRAN — Iranian rescuers and aid workers are on standby to fly to New York City to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Sandy, the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Organization said on Wednesday.

“We are ready to help the flood-stricken people of America,” Mahmud Mozaffar, who leads the organization, told the semiofficial Fars News Agency.

His men stand ready to board planes and fly to the United States to help out, assuming the American government accepts Iran’s offer, he said.

“If American authorities agree, we can send our rescuers with equipment and tools to American cities in the shortest period of time,” Mr. Mozaffar said.

Well bless their sweet little hearts. Where's Chavez when we need him.

They better hurry and get over here. If Romney takes office, he won't let them come. We all know how he feels about Iran.

Thanks, but no thanks. We've had enough damage as it is.

All this proves is the Iranian gubmint doesn't have the sense to be in charge of anything more than a lemonaid stand.

God only knows we could use the Iranians at a time like this.

politically correct offer of help
good form iran

anyone know what israel has offered?

The residents of Harlem will accept. They like Amendinejad and they invite him to speak there and cheer loudly for his rage against the United States.

Israel and the USA don't seem to be offering anything at all

Still invading still occupying, still stealing resources still killing civilians from great heights etc

Although to be fair at least the USA has signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty and allows international inspections of its nuclear facilities. The USA doesn't lie about possessing nuclear weapons unlike only ONE other nation in the world .

Can anyone guess which nation that is?

I'm glad to see there's still some peaceful cooperation between countries in the world.

God only knows we could use the Iranians at a time like this.

At least they offered, a gesture of kindness goes a long way.

Their offer of assistance means they're not qualified to run a lemonade stand? How does that make any sense?

What are you talking about? Harlem?

It's amazing and incredibly ironic that they would offer assistance after all the terrible, life threatening sanctions we've imposed on their country.

Awww this is touching. Goes to show you that all around the world everyone is a human. (I instantly deflect all anti-carebear, huge montage about evil people haters and don't need to respond)

I'd take them up on it. Off the beaten path places where we have helped in disasters have sent us aid for things like Katrina. Not much to us but a lot to them.

Kinda dickish not to accept.

"Hey lemme give you a hand up outa that hole."

"Piss off" *keeps digging hand holes*

But I can understand why some would be scared.

I'm surprised a politician didn't accept and have a crazy plan to twist it. Guess it was a curveball thrown.

Are they truly sincerely in wanting to help out, truly sincere in trying to break the ice or do they have some ulterior motive such as mapping, spying, planting terrorist sleeper cells?

I'd accept their help. We bankrupted the Russians lets see how big of a tab the Iranians wanna rack up.

If they are turning away help from Alabama Power, do you really think they would accept from another country?

Heck with Israel...what has Indonesia or other flood prone countries offered? With the frequency of floods over there, they surely must know a lot about the subject. You know, practice makes perfect, eh?

I can just see it now, 6 months later the government of Iran is going to somehow use this to self-justify plans for nuclear proliferation.

If they are turning away help from Alabama Power, do you really think they would accept from another country?

not if they prefer to accept help from workers who can read
