PETA seeks memorial where 1,600 pounds of fish died in Irvine

PETA seeks memorial where 1,600 pounds of fish died in Irvine - latimes.com

On behalf of the animal rights group PETA, an Irvine woman is asking the city to erect a memorial at the street corner where 1,600 pounds of fish died this month when a container truck crashed into two other vehicles.

Dina Kourda, a volunteer with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wrote to the Irvine Public Works Department to request that a sign be placed at Walnut and Yale avenues to honor the lives of the fish — believed to be saltwater bass — lost in the accident.

The fish had been stored in large tanks that cracked open as a result of the Oct. 11 accident. When firefighters opened the back of the truck, some fish flopped out, and others had already died. None of the people in the accident were seriously injured.

"Although such signs are traditionally reserved for human fatalities, I hope you'll make an exception because of the enormous suffering involved in this case, in order to remind drivers that all animals — whether they're humans, basset hounds or bass — value their lives and feel pain," Kourda wrote.
Remember folks, there is a bright spot in these trying economic and stormy times. We can always laugh at PETA.

People who love animals more than people are traitors. Not everyone in PETA is crazy, but enough are to make me ha e a strong distaste for the organization as a whole.

PETA is, at this point, essentially the left-wing equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church, minus a bit of the hate and plus a whole lot more laughability.

Fish are cool and all... But really? They "value their lives". They're fish. C'mon.

I'm a vegan and I can't stand PETA. There are well intentioned people who are members but as an organization I can't stand it.

Expressing love for animals does not inherently mean that you don't care about people. You don't have to choose between the two in most cases.

Do you think that a person torturing a dog should be punished? We do that you know. So are we choosing animals over people in those cases?

I sort of respect what they do . . . I rarely judge them. But a memorial for fish? Who died as a result of an accident? I'm sorry. Ridiculous. How about a memorial for the over 4 million dogs and cats who are euthanized each year? Dogs and cats who were faithful until the end -- the end being, way too many times, when their owners simply tired of them.
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

Every couple of weeks a genocide truck travels our neighborhood mercilessly slaughtering helpless, innocent mosquitos by the millions - blaming them all for the offenses of so very few. Besides, they were here first.

Antibiotics are literal genocide. The man who invented penicillin is about a trillion times worse than Hitler!

No, punishing a person for abusing a dog is not what I mean, what I mean is PETA members have told me that they would rather people starve than eat meat and all kinds of other crazy nonsense. Maybe some individuals are well intentioned, but I think they are taking it way too far, dumping paint on people who wear fur etc. All it takes is meeting one PETA militant vegan and it is hard not to harbor ill will toward them.

Maybe when all of the humans are taken care of we can spend money on stopping animal suffering, until then I have a serious problem with organizations like PETA. The SPCA does a great job, and protects humans from dangerous animals, they are the only place I would support who are fighting for "animal's rights" atm.
