PETA seeks memorial where 1,600 pounds of fish died in Irvine

And PETA euthanize about 90% of the animals they take in. Shameful.

Of course they do, they don't actually care about animals, they just want animals to be completely free of any human interest. The animals they kill are pets that cannot be released into the wild and since they oppose pet ownership in all it's forms, they just kill them.

I wonder if they have a eulogy for every turd they pop out due to the millions of gut flora bacteria that may be sent to their deaths. These people are insane.

I remember when one of them sent a letter to Obama when he killed a fly during an interview.

true story-24 years ago or so I debated Ingrid Newkirk on a talk radio station. She whined that school children were taught about the genocide perpetrated by the Nazis but not that committed by Colonel Sanders against all those poor chickens. The host noted that anyone who thought they were the same ought to be sent to Auschwitz. Newkirk was dead serious. They don't love animals, they hate people

Its nuts. ANYTIME you have an ideological group, there is some faction that will have a contest to see who is MORE extreme than the other, and PETA has evolved in that direction.

Scaring little kids with images of Ronald McDonald with a dripping dagger and telling them that their daddies are bad isn't funny at all; it's sick.

Well, I'm not disagreeing. But my point was, they're hardly as bad as Westboro, tending more toward being laughably pathetic rather than universally reprehensible.

I think people would be well advised that if they are going to donate money to not donate to PETA. I donate to my local shelters instead.

This. We adopted our three cats from a local shelter, and saw the real animal-lovers were volunteers there, caring for the animals, taking doggies for walks, buying toys for the kittens and cats out of their own pockets, hand-feeding tiny puppies and kittens, and putting prospective adoptees through rigorous background checks. These are the people who love animals, not the ones who try to terrify little children, put up memorials to dead fish, and fling blood on fur coats.

Absolutely, and if more people donated to their local shelters instead of to places like PETA, their local shelters could afford to feed and keep the animals alive longer so they could have a better chance to be adopted.

Does PETA condemn other carnivorous species as evil, too? Are lions evil for eating gazelles? Are sharks evil for eating other fish? How about spiders for eating flies? Unless PETA is willing to condemn literally every single animal in the world that eats other creatures, then they must understand that nature intends for it to happen. Wanting better treatment for our food animals is fine, and morally correct, but opposing killing and eating things in general? That's primal.

PETA does some nutty stuff but they also go after pet abuse cases as well. That makes no headlines. I do a lot of cat rescue and I'm glad there's a PETA out there going after the assholes who harm them. All I can do is help find them a home. I can't punish the supposed humans who were supposed to take care of them - and didn't.

The Vegan division. Not so much. Don't judge the who organization by the antics of the most radical.

People who love animals more than people are traitors. Not everyone in PETA is crazy, but enough are to make me ha e a strong distaste for the organization as a whole.

I wasn't aware we were at war.

As ridiculous as PETA is, and they are very ridiculous, let’s keep our criticisms on point. Bacteria are not animals. Neither are yeast, which is why vegans can still knock back beer. :)

PETA would say that you have a choice in what you eat whereas a lion does not.

Thanks, it's hard for me to tell. I know quite a few people who seriously will not get their kids immunized.

Seriously? I think that is a form of child abuse.

I never really saw the issue with their euthanization program. Infact, most non-kill shelters Ive been too become little more than foster homes for problem animals that no one will take. Eating up valuable resources and limiting their ability to place others

Do you think that a person torturing a dog should be punished? We do that you know. So are we choosing animals over people in those cases?

I think in many cases it's absurd that someone gets jail time for it.

I think you're being a little over dramatic.

I am, but my point is we are on the top of the food chain and we got here by killing lots of animals. I see little more reason to mourn the passing of some fish than stale bread. Food is food.

I do think it is ridiculous that you can chop a chickens head off and no one says anything but if you shoot your dog because he was getting violent people will think you a bad person. I can see reason for some anti animal abuse laws but really most of it seems questionable to me.
