'Frankenstorm' Headed to Region

We cannot wait until its over to tease you as you might get blown away LOL.

Seriously though, fill your bathtub with water just in case for flushing and some clean containers with potable water just in case this isn't your first rodeo. You are probably going to have boil water warnings at the very least for awhile if you are near the intense parts. If you are on the coast, you probably should head inland a mile or so or if you are near a river or stream head uphill.

We're under driving ban as it's officially now a state of emergency.

I'm not in a flood plane, nor am I in a trailer. Still have power. Plenty to drink. Gas grill in garage with extra propane for cooking if needed.

I think the fine for being caught out driving is $115 dollars or something like that.

We've still got electricity and internet (obviously).

The worst is still 12 hours away.

LOL. If they pulled me I would take as long as possible to find my license/paperwork just to make the poor po po standing in the storm earn his $115

Given the LONG advance notice, sounds like insurance fraud to me. For how old it is, the wood is likely well rotted, no one wants huge old wood boats, and if it sinks they can claim some great historic value, when it has very little value.

It was built as a movie prop so I doubt "replacement value" is in their policy if they have one.

It's all much ado about nothing. Barely a CAT 1 storm. It's a media event.

What makes this storm different is that it is going to collide with a Nor'easter. Apparently this makes it much more dangerous.

They keep changing the expected time of arrival. Things are pretty quiet right now though.

More than likely I'll lose power, so this might be the last time I can be on line for days. :(

Hey ChrisL, your PM mailbox is full...

Not a big deal huh?

Yeah, remember Irene? It wasn't a big deal but the media freaked out.
OK, I admit, the leaves can be quite a problem clogging the drainage.

Absolutely yes! HAHAHAHA Weather forecast as the latest spin of the art of sensationalism. Who would have bet on this one.

This hurricane is a MUCH bigger storm than Irene. You do know that every storm is different right?

They're not all the same you know.

Well, yeah. However, America gets pounded by tornadoes and such almost on a daily basis. People die, towns are wiped out. What's the big deal this time?
You don't have cities under sea level in the area now, do you?

Well, the wind is just starting to pick up a bit. It was only a bit breezy earlier, but we just got a couple of good gusts. I have to log out to bring a couple of things inside that I had forgotten about. I'll keep you all updated whenever I can though.

Just got a report from co workers in Columbia MD and they are getting hammered with rain right now. I guess they expect the real deal later today. Hope everyone in the region stays safe.

Anyways, good luck everyone in the area. See ya later. :)

Probably a "declared value" policy. Replacement value would be astronomical.

Many a boat, yacht and ship has been left to be destroyed by known incoming storms for the insnurance. This is SO common that for some hurricanes insurance companies go to marinas and move the boats with or without the owners being advised to deal with that practice. The book value of boats is typically dramatically higher than their actual value depending on actual condition. If a boat goes under, there is no way to know if the motor, interior, electronics etc were working and in good condition or not. Its the most profitable way to get rid of a worn out boat.

Restoration on wood boats, yachts and ships is astronomical. Usually they can't even be given away, although above the waterline may look like they are very good condition.

Good luck. What area are you in if you are willing to say?

So far little to nothing here in Manhattan except tides.
Barely wind, barely rain.

Supposed to get much worse in PM but storm brunt looks to stay somewhat South and do a U-ee around NYC/CT/Boston.
LI. Beaches still get hit. Winds will be high even in areas not shown in path.
Tides might be very high/Flooding tonight from RI south.

It isn't supposed to get nasty until Tuesday and that map does not show the thing will be throwing 50-70 mph gusts and rain into WV, KY, S. VA. etc on the backside of the rotation. I think the bigger danger is the angle is so atypical that people south of the storm my not realize the outer loops are going to be hitting them on the west and south so I wonder how many folks are unprepared for what's coming.
