'Frankenstorm' Headed to Region

Our corpulent governor doesn't want to hear excuses from the mayors about flooding due to paperwork. Get the work done and we'll deal with the paperwork later. Very circumspect advice.

So am I correct in thinking that you are a knuckle dragging climate change denier?

Input from a lean-believer: thank you for further proving why I left your miserable, arrogant party in the first place.

At any rate, I shudder to consider what would come of it were this storm anything above Category 1. Best of luck to anyone in the northeast with the misfortune to be caught in this. :(

What a bunch of New England ******s! 40 to 50 mph winds? Around here that just means small boats shouldn't go offshore.
Just joking. New Englanders are delicate people and we all need to show compassion.

As one who has seen the effects of Gulf Hurricanes some 200 miles away I STRONGLY urge anyone in the path of this monster to leave for safer ground. This may very well be the worst and most destructive hurricane in U.S. history.

I have a couple of friends in the area. Let's just keep folks who are there in mind for right now!

As one who sits just south (by scant miles) of the projected path of the eye of this storm, stop making this political right now. It's a potential killer storm. How's about waiting for after the storm rolls through, or peters out to be an ass about things?

Seriously. Friends, family, neighbors and all are just waiting to see what happens.

We don't care about global warming, or which county/state can do better at surviving such storms.

Once Sandy has blown her load and the aftermath can be sorted out you can get all obnoxious.

Right now lets just hope for minimal disruption of everyday life for the millions who are holding their breath.

LOL! Oh very funny! Not.

The worst weather tragedy in these parts, in my memory, was the blizzard of '97 and no one got hurt. We did get fat from sitting around the house eating until we all got ourselves dug out and dealing with cabin fever.

too be fair you cant blame New England for being extra careful after what happened to Vermont last year

No power and 12" of rain is nothing to sneeze at.

Plus high tide, plus storm surge, plus heavy rain, plus no power.

Look at Accuweather. The rain is just dumping.

Good luck folks.

I was without power here in Massachusetts for 3 days! I know it's not the end of the world, but it was still sucky. I'm NOT looking forward to that happening again, and I am hopeful that it will fizzle out.

The Atlantic City boardwalk is crumbling.

Saw this on FB as a reminder that not everyone is running from the storm

80 mph, are you kidding me? It's not a big deal. The media hype about this storm is somewhat amusing.

Living in North Carolina I have been through many of these storms.

Stay safe all you folks in the Northeast.

Not a big deal huh? How many people will have to be killed by this storm before you think that maybe you're wrong?

How many people will have to lose their homes due to flooding before you admit maybe you're wrong?

There's much more to this storm than wind.

And yes - 80mph winds in a region that almost never sees anything higher than 50mph is a big deal.

90% of the leaves are still on the trees making them much more susceptible to being blown down.

Our area is not prepared for something this huge.

The winds will blow the leaves off and clog storm drains as the rain pounds. The northeast doesn't seem to have as good as storm drain systems as the south because of the density of housing in urban area, the age of the systems, and the lack of need as they do not typically get the insane intense rains the South does.

Imagine Miami Florida getting 3 days of below freezing temperatures, and 10-12 inches of snowfall. That would "cripple" that region.

That's kinda what we're dealing with up here.

LOL but you yankees like to make fun of southerners for not being able to deal with snow, so I guess now it is your turn to be on the receiving end of the jabs :)

Don't freak out. There is nothing you can do about the weather. I have been through hurricanes and tornadoes zipping through my hood. Just keep your wits about you and if worse comes to worse, forget the material things and save yourselves and your pets. 80 mph gusts are nasty, but they are not as bad as you might think overall and I've seen some fairly small houses survive having trees fall on them better than I would have imagined but that is rarer than people think too. Stay away from downed powerlines and be aware of potential for downed lines if you are moving about. If you are in a low lying area or a mobile home or something, you might want to be elsewhere like the mall or a shelter or a friends house (again don't forget the pets) but otherwise, it will likely be just one big annoyance.

Not freaking out. Riding her out.

Just think it might be best for people to wait until after this is over to start name-calling and teasing.

This could be much bigger than people think. Or not.

The storm is not skirting the coast. It's making a dead-rush straight at it. Then crossing into some extremely populated areas of the country.

Lots of people could be in for MUCH more than just a "big annoyance".

If that's all it turns out to be, I'd be very happy and relieved.

We cannot wait until its over to tease you as you might get blown away LOL.

Seriously though, fill your bathtub with water just in case for flushing and some clean containers with potable water just in case this isn't your first rodeo. You are probably going to have boil water warnings at the very least for awhile if you are near the intense parts. If you are on the coast, you probably should head inland a mile or so or if you are near a river or stream head uphill.

It's all much ado about nothing. Barely a CAT 1 storm. It's a media event.

(psst.....anything that affects DC or NYC is the storm of the century that they bravely survived, but don't tell anybody):naughty

Given the LONG advance notice, sounds like insurance fraud to me. For how old it is, the wood is likely well rotted, no one wants huge old wood boats, and if it sinks they can claim some great historic value, when it has very little value.
