I was without power here in Massachusetts for 3 days! I know it's not the end of the world, but it was still sucky. I'm NOT looking forward to that happening again, and I am hopeful that it will fizzle out.

The Atlantic City boardwalk is crumbling.

Saw this on FB as a reminder that not everyone is running from the storm

80 mph, are you kidding me? It's not a big deal. The media hype about this storm is somewhat amusing.

Living in North Carolina I have been through many of these storms.

Stay safe all you folks in the Northeast.

Not a big deal huh? How many people will have to be killed by this storm before you think that maybe you're wrong?

How many people will have to lose their homes due to flooding before you admit maybe you're wrong?

There's much more to this storm than wind.

And yes - 80mph winds in a region that almost never sees anything higher than 50mph is a big deal.

90% of the leaves are still on the trees making them much more susceptible to being blown down.

Our area is not prepared for something this huge.

The winds will blow the leaves off and clog storm drains as the rain pounds. The northeast doesn't seem to have as good as storm drain systems as the south because of the density of housing in urban area, the age of the systems, and the lack of need as they do not typically get the insane intense rains the South does.

Imagine Miami Florida getting 3 days of below freezing temperatures, and 10-12 inches of snowfall. That would "cripple" that region.

That's kinda what we're dealing with up here.

LOL but you yankees like to make fun of southerners for not being able to deal with snow, so I guess now it is your turn to be on the receiving end of the jabs

Don't freak out. There is nothing you can do about the weather. I have been through hurricanes and tornadoes zipping through my hood. Just keep your wits about you and if worse comes to worse, forget the material things and save yourselves and your pets. 80 mph gusts are nasty, but they are not as bad as you might think overall and I've seen some fairly small houses survive having trees fall on them better than I would have imagined but that is rarer than people think too. Stay away from downed powerlines and be aware of potential for downed lines if you are moving about. If you are in a low lying area or a mobile home or something, you might want to be elsewhere like the mall or a shelter or a friends house (again don't forget the pets) but otherwise, it will likely be just one big annoyance.

Not freaking out. Riding her out.

Just think it might be best for people to wait until after this is over to start name-calling and teasing.

This could be much bigger than people think. Or not.

The storm is not skirting the coast. It's making a dead-rush straight at it. Then crossing into some extremely populated areas of the country.

Lots of people could be in for MUCH more than just a "big annoyance".

If that's all it turns out to be, I'd be very happy and relieved.
