The GOP has stated that States should be responsible for their own recovery and that the Feds should not be involved. I disagree. Ask the poor bastards in harms way if they want the Feds to butt off.

I hope all of you and yours are safe. I've been there and done that with 4 hurricanes. It's too late to offer advice. Being a lower level huiricane and being very urban you will not lose major landmarks. You will find your way out and back home. That is a very good thing. You will not become disoriented. That's a plus, as you will discover. If you can, leave people armed at home as you go out in search for necessities. There will be looters, especially in the hardest hit areas.

Washington Post Photo Gallery - adverts first then 59 pictures.

Hope you guys are all safe and well over there, some reports over here say the funnel of cold air coming down from the north may make some conditions even worse inland from the flooding in New York.

Appears a levee has been breached in Northern NJ.

Massive flooding....people standing on the roofs of their homes to survive....rescue boats in the water.

    Sounds like Katrina.

This is just awful. I'm about to head off to bed, it's late at night here and i just want you all to know this is being heavily reported on the other side of the world and we are all thinking of you and hoping that you and your families are ok and stay safe. I hope i wake to better news for you all.

Watching the blizzards in WV as I type, it's insane. In Queens NY it's like the Japanese tsunami with water everywhere, fires raging, and no way for the firefighters to get there. BBC news 24 has been almost entirely given over to the disaster. Stay safe!

But video of a guy standing in 4 feet of water at an Atlantic City intersection doesn't lie.

Is arguing minutiae on a forum really worth ignoring the big picture that millions of folks in the east are in the midst of a severe weather crisis? Priorities, people. Priorities.
I am quite aware of the overall situation and have posted it throughout (not to mention the/my OP) including in the post http://www.debatepolitics.com/breaki...post1061081692
in which the 'NYSE' was just an edit (after a significant List) which I Rightfully corrected.

The unfortunate discussion with Lachean only went on, indeed only started, with an empty but contrary post otherwise.
But at least our discussion was on the topic if minor in the big picture.
I was distressed early in the string of some utterly off topic partisan bickering, though I did Not attempt to moderate or censor it with 'traffic sign' posts. At least one Other poster said it was all hype.

Again, I have posted the overall disaster throughout and was Myself displaced due to the Storm as were some family and friends in the this/NY area. I don't need You telling me the gravity or appointing yourself string director.

The good thing is everyone in the world agreed to stop all activities until this is over so the media can cover it 24/7.

Change your mind yet? Which part of broken levies, record-setting storm surges, and dead people do you think is being over-hyped? Maybe you can tell us which story is more important? I know, maybe some random out-of-context sentence the president said. Or a sex scandal!

Reports today more than 7 Million homes (perhaps twice or more that many people) in 20 states have no power.
Half apparently in the Tri-state, NY, NJ, CT area.

Here in Manhattan, I have heard, but can't confirm there is no power below 40th st. 240,000 in Manhattan alone
    Other boroughs could be worse.

LIPA, Long Island's power company, has nearly 900,000 of 1.1 million without power. 80%.

Some will be a week or more returning.
Many sparser or damaged coastal areas on the East Coast will be several weeks to restore.
