Latest Jackson Jr. probe clouds political, legal future - chicagotribune.com

... The look at Jackson's finances is an "ongoing inquiry," according to a federal source familiar with the probe. Another source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the investigation into campaign finances has been ongoing "for months" and that vendors to Jackson's campaign are among those being questioned in the case.
... In 2008, Jackson faced federal scrutiny over his involvement in trying to secure President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat from Blagojevich. Jackson's political stock rapidly declined amid allegations that a wealthy supporter and longtime friend, Raghuveer Nayak, offered Blagojevich up to $6 million to appoint the congressman to fill Obama's Senate vacancy.Nayak, who was arrested on unrelated federal fraud charges in June, had told federal investigators that Jackson asked him to raise campaign money for Blagojevich in hopes the then-governor would appoint the congressman to the seat, sources familiar with the investigation have told the Tribune.
Jackson has denied any knowledge of fundraising in exchange for the appointment, but the allegations over the Senate seat prompted an ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee. ...
wonder if this federal investigation has anything to do with his father's comments four years ago:
See, Barack's been, ah, talking down to black people on this faith-based... I want to cut his nuts off... Barack, he's talking down to black people
looks like somebody is about to get nutted
but it ain't Obama

This isn't retribution.

JJ Jr. hasn't been at work for four months. He's on the ballot for re-election.

...but the sources say jackson 's lawyers met with federal prosecutors in washington last week asking them to delay any decision on bringing charges until after the november election. the feds gave no assurances, said the sources. top illinois democrats monday brushed off questions about the new probe.

^^^ That, if true, should assure him of being thrown out on his ass. One can only hope.

i so wish your assessment is accurate, but junior will win his election no matter what charges are filed against him

And then we'll see if the Ethics Committee does their job. Smells like 5-day-old fish.

Possibly to make sure the seat stays in democratic hands. If he dropped out now, I assume the GOP would win, but who knows.

I'd still rather have him as minority leader

I'm of the opinion JJ, Jr. is in big legal trouble that few people know about. Why? What is his profession? Politician. And what is the top priority of a politician? To get re-elected. The number one way to not get re-elected is to tell your constituents you suffer from a health issue that could impede your ability to serve, especially a mental health issue. You don't go to the media and say "I'm not well". I don't think he's fabricating his condition and my heart goes out to him and his family but sadly the normal thing to do would be to conceal it, if it goes public lie about it and it that won't work minimize it. My best guess, he's letting this situation serve a legal purpose in advance by creating public sympathy for him.

Just saw some earlier posts saying he's under Federal investigation.

Maybe the fact that he is under a federal investigation caused his mental health issues - stress and all.....

The apple....the tree....yep.

Nope, that's southside Chicago....that's not going to the GOP anytime soon. It hasn't been Republican for 60 years.

And it's been going so well down there under Democrat leadership. It's like a freakin' war zone.

We've seen time and again that this sort of thing is a plus to his constituency group.
