The Quran burning pastor form Florida is the news again but here in Canada. In this article by The Globe, it says that the pastor has for now been barred for entry because of a breach of peace charge in his past. I think the real reason they are stopping him is that we don't want him here. We don't take too kindly to people like him and don't want him in our country. What are American's thoughts on this?

Edit: He was travelling to Cnada to debate several people about free speech including: Imam Steve Rockwell the director of Sheikh Deidat Mosque, Dr Masud Ansari a prominent Islamic author, Dr Bikram Lamba Canada’s most prominent Sikh leader and author, Ron Banerjee Director of Canadian Hindu Advocacy.

Prepare for a barrage of Christian Persecution Complex. You've been warned.

I think the real reason is that he broke laws, probably by setting fires and stuff, and shows every intention of doing it again. In America, we don't give a crap what you burn, as long as you bought it and you're not breaking a law.

He says the charge was overturned - was it?

Canada doesn't matter much, seeing that they don't respect free speech.

Lol, Canada. Why would anyone want to conquer Canada? Pancakes, maple syrup, and monster mosquitos?

On the contrary. If Canada doesn't want him to come in, that is Canada's business. No big deal.

We like free speech we just draw the line at wanting death of x group and saying something to purposely cause harm.

No, no. You like free speech so long as it's convenient for you. If you truly valued free speech, you'd let there be free speech.

Free speech doesn't come with a "line."

As a Floridian, don't send him back!

We do respect free speech. what we won't tolerate is hate speech designed to incite violence. Our hate speech laws are very specific, because freedom of speech is a fundamental right as outlined in our charter of rights and freedoms.

You'd want it for lets see.... tons of natural resources trailing only Russia in that regard. 1/4 of the worlds fresh water. Tim Horton's coffee, the best hockey players, beavertails, and monster mosquito zappers, oh and of course way better beer.

You forgot to mention that hate speech varies on a province by province basis and those aren't very strict depending on the province.

What is Canada's position on hate speech BY Muslims?

What is Canada's position on hate speech BY Muslims?

Most complaints by Muslim groups have actually been dismissed. In regards to to hate speech by Muslims aslong as it doesn't "exposes or tends to expose to hatred, ridicules, belittles or otherwise affronts the dignity of any person or class of persons" in Saskatchewan or in Qubec is based on "race, colour, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, civil status, age except as provided by law, religion, political convictions, language, ethnic or national origin, social condition, a handicap or the use of any means to palliate a handicap."

This is "breaking news?"

this is just another reason why I like America more than Canada.

I have no love for the guy at all... but I'll take a million idiots like him over stepping on free speech to keep one of them out.

What is Canada's position on hate speech BY Muslims?

Exactly the same as hate speech by redneck christians or neo nazis or anyone else espousing hatred of and violence to an identifiable group.

Most canadians don't have a problem with muslims, or christians or jews or hindi, or buddists or white, black, brown or red. they are generally viewed both in law and in our society as simply canadians. Occasionally an allowance on religious grounds is made, like in Toronto Shiks can carry their kirpans and shik police officers can wear beards and turbans.

Here it is.

I don't think this is *breaking news* This pastor guy is more like *old news* IMO, but whatever floats your boat!

Well here it's on the front page of all the news sites.

Really? Not much happening in Canada huh? I haven't heard about this guy in a while, that's all. Why people want to keep someone like him in the news is beyond me.

Were kind of waiting for parliament to do something again. There really has been much after the abortion motion got steam rolled besides the Conservatives ad spending is out of control.

And banning a crazy (yet probably harmless) preacher satisfies you guys?
