Police Union Says War-Like Detroit Is Unsafe For Visitors

9 St. Louis, Missouri

According to U.S. News and World Report, the most dangerous city in the United States is St. Louis.

If you have a death wish, just wander around the streets of East St. Louis at night.

There is a decent chance that someone will shoot you.

Things were not always this way in St. Louis. But today things have
gotten so bad that you can find packs of wild dogs roaming the city
digging through trash and threatening children.
The following is from a report by the local CBS affiliate in St. Louis....

...Lewis Reed is sounding the alarm. "I’ve witnessed
packs of dogs, 10 and 15 dogs running together, and I’ve seen all these
dogs I’m talking about they don’t have collars, they don’t have tags,
these are truly wild dogs," he said.
Reed says stray dogs are terrorizing the north side. "It’s
obscene that parents have to walk their kids to school, in some parts of
the city, with a golf club to fend off wild dogs."
This kind of thing is actually happening in America?

#10 New Orleans, Louisiana

The problems that New Orleans has experienced have been well documented.

But unlike most of the cities listed above, at least New Orleans has an excuse. New Orleans permanently lost 29% of its population after Hurricane Katrina, and large sections of the city were essentially destroyed by that storm.

Even today, there are still some areas of New Orleans that look as if they have just been bombed.

It has been estimated that about 20 percent of the homes in New
Orleans are still standing vacant, and poverty is rampant. New Orleans
will probably never fully recover to the level it was at before
Hurricane Katrina hit.
#11 Oakland, California

Oakland has always been in the shadow of San Francisco, and the contrast between the two cities continues to grow.

Oakland has always been considered one of the more dangerous cities
in America, and this year crime rates in Oakland are rising rapidly.
The following is from a recent article in the New York Times....
At the beginning of April, murders in Oakland were up
26 percent over a year ago, rapes were up 41 percent, and robberies
were up 35 percent.
When Chief Batts arrived as a “change agent” in 2009, the police
department employed 837 officers. It now has 635. The department no
longer responds to burglaries that are not still in progress, and
frequently does not respond to other calls for help.
So if your house has been robbed and the burglars are gone what are you supposed to do?

Due to a crippling lack of resources, the previous police chief
decided that his department would no longer be able to respond to all
crimes.
The following is a partial list of the crimes that police in Oakland are no longer likely to respond to....

burglary
theft
embezzlement
grand theft
grand theft: dog
identity theft
false information to peace officer
required to register as sex or arson offender
dump waste or offensive matter
loud music
possess forged notes
pass fictitious check
obtain money by false voucher
fraudulent use of access cards
stolen license plate
embezzlement by an employee
extortion
attempted extortion
false personification of other
injure telephone/power line
interfere with power line
unauthorized cable tv connection
vandalism

So what do you do if you are a victim of one of those crimes in Oakland?

That is a very good question.

#12 Baltimore, Maryland

If you can believe it, Baltimore was actually once a great city.

But today it has become a crime-ridden, drug-infested hellhole.

I used to drive up to Baltimore all the time. It truly is a "blue
collar" city. There are a lot of really hard working people there.
Unfortunately, there are not nearly enough jobs for everyone and a lot of people have turned to drugs and crime.

There are some areas of Baltimore that you really should never enter
by yourself. If you do go into them, you might not make it back out.
There was one incident in Baltimore earlier this year that was particularly disturbing.

One poor young man had gotten drunk and was apparently wandering
around all by himself. Some thugs approached him and they clearly
sensed that he was vulnerable. So they knocked him to the ground,
stripped him of his car keys, his watch, his money, his cell phone and
his clothes.
A crowd gathered around to watch, and instead of helping the man,
several of them got out their cell phones and laughed hysterically while
they recorded the incident with their cell phone cameras for YouTube.
What made all of this even sadder is that this happened right in front of a Baltimore courthouse.

What in the world has happened to this nation?

All of us that still love this country should be deeply saddened by everything above.

America is rotting from the inside out, and if we are ever going to
find any solutions we need to start admitting how bad things have really
become.
The truth is that our problems are not limited to one political
party, one special interest group or to one region of the country. The
social decay that is plaguing America can literally be found everywhere.
For much more on this, please see the following four articles....

1) "25 Signs The Collapse Of America Is Speeding Up As Society Rots From The Inside Out"

2) "70 Reasons To Mourn For America"

3) "20 Signs That Society Is Breaking Down And That America Has Been Overrun By Psychos"

4) "12 Factors That Are Turning The Streets Of America Into A Living Hell"

So don't laugh at Detroit or Cleveland or St. Louis.

The rest of the country is declining too.

If the city where you live is not a hellhole already, it will be soon enough."

I still say we should categorize domestic gangs as terrorist organisations and commit as much time and resources toward them as we do Al Qaeda and other such groups. Lets at least clean up our own neighborhoods before we police the world.

Yup, having American police and military forces treat American Citizens the same way we treat foreign terrorists, en-mass and on our own soil, is a marvelous idea. But why stop there? The government won't, once that Pandora's box is open...

(/irony)

I see gangs as a bigger danger than militia groups, but the left has no interest in supporting anything other than hugging minorities and telling them everything will be alright.

Once in a while, you see articles similar to the Original Post. Upon close review of those articles and virtually all of the comments following, it's always fascinating to see that NEVER do you see the word "black" or the more PC word "African American." You never see the word "Mexican." Why not?

Instead, as Americans, we have been trained to nebulously define causes by attaching blame to such undefinable entities as "gangs" or some other such smokelike entity that no cause is ever identified and as a result NO SOLUTION IS EVER FOUND OR APPLIED. As JoeChili accurately points out, much of the nation is gone now, in decline to the extent that you will die if you venture into certain areas. Your wife and daughter will be tortured and raped before being killed. We have even been trained (forced) to no longer feel any outrage or despair at such an incredible state of affairs. We are forbidden to even notice, let alone talk about the problem. We simply accept this and plan our travels accordingly.

If you notice or comment, at the very least, you will be called "Racist" "Bigoted" or whatever, we all know the words used to silence the Americans who built this country. At worst, you are publicly humiliated and lose your job and acquaintances. During this election season, the local liberal newspaper in my area of 250,000 people will not let you comment on articles unless your comment is linked to Facebook and your actual name is printed along with your comment. All critical comments have therefore disappeared.

The bottom line is that these social problems are never accurately defined and resultantly never solved. They just get worse.

Unless Americans are allowed to openly discuss race, intelligence, genetics, racial characteristics and their sociological effects on civilized society, none of these problems will ever be solved. They will never even be defined. Add into the mix, the rampant, uncontrolled 3rd world immigration into the United States and we will simply return to a nation of warring tribes. We are probably 60% down that road right now.

I agree with you. One cannot even discuss race, etc., etc., on this forum without it leading to charges of racism. Makes me sick.

I chose AK47's because most of the good citizens of Detroit have been denied the right to arms by their oppressive government. Being unfamiliar with the operation and maintenance of more sophisticated weapons, AK47's would serve them well in culling the herd of the Idiots among them.

Not sure where you are getting that people in Detroit are denied the right to arms. I can't find where their laws differ from those in the rest of Michigan where you don't even need a carry permit as long as the gun is registered and not concealed. As for AKs, they vary greatly in quality depending on where they are manufactured. A well made model is probably better suited for urban warfare than the American M-4 as indicated by the numerous images of American troops in Iraq utilizing them. Personally, I'll stick with the real cream of the crop, the German H+Ks.

On September 11, 2,996 people died on US soil due to a terrorist attacks. As a result we created new departments of government, expanded our intelligence capability, expanded government powers to monitor and detain even US citizens. We have spent over an additional trillion dollars to combat potential threats to the US and US interests not to mention put our troops into harms way in several countries. Plus much more...

VS.

From 2006-2010 alone, 5042 people died as a result of gang violence on US soil. What have we done? Not nearly enough.

I just think our priorities are a little skewed is all. We are willing to go to great effort and expense all over the world but it just seems we lack conviction to make things right here at home. When I hear about authorities warning people that it is unsafe to go into certain neighborhoods I think 3rd world countries, not the USA. I think we need to focus inward for a time and clean up our own country instead of policing the world.

obama's self admittedly ignorant ag's famous "nation of cowards" speech, feb, 2009:

Eric Holder, the nation's first black attorney general, said Wednesday the United States was "a nation of cowards" on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues.

In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.

"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," Holder said.

Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, but "we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."

Holder cited that speech by Obama as part of the motivation for his words Wednesday, saying Americans need to overcome an ingrained inhibition against talking about race.

"If we're going to ever make progress, we're going to have to have the guts, we have to have the determination, to be honest with each other. It also means we have to be able to accept criticism where that is justified," Holder told reporters after the speech.

Race, Holder said, "is an issue we have never been at ease with and, given our nation's history, this is in some ways understandable... If we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us."

Even when people mix at the workplace or afterwork social events, Holder argued, many Americans in their free time are still segregated inside what he called "race-protected cocoons."

"Saturdays and Sundays, America in the year 2009 does not in some ways differ significantly from the country that existed almost 50 years ago. This is truly sad," said Holder.

Holder Calls U.S. 'Nation of Cowards' on Race Matters | Fox News

it doesn't look like any frank discussion of racial miseries is quite the conversation the ignorant ag anticipated

as for getting together on weekends---great

except the detroit police dept just warned us all to stay away

after addressing his courageous remarks about cowardice to the doj in obama's first month in office, the ignorant ag flew immediately off to gitmo

he was gonna close it

This is why we need to support the right of Citizens to kill gangbangers and thugs in large numbers.

It is better than the citizenry do it; otherwise we give more power to the government.

Yes, it will be a bit Chaotic.... but that's not a downside to me.... ;)

He didn't say treat American citizens the same way as foreign terrorists.

He said commit the same resources we commit towards taking back our neighborhoods.

Unfortunately we'll never be able to take back these neighborhoods until minorities in this country are willing to take responsibility for the situations they find themselves in and the first step is for liberals to start acknowledging that they are responsible for an awful lot of their problems.

I know it is a horrible thing to speak of, but is it possible that the reason people care less about gangs is because they largely are just killing each other in drug/turf wars?

If only solving Detroit's problems was as simple as the plot of a 70's grind-house film. Destroying the rule of law and militarizing the city are not going to bring life back to the city. It needs economic growth. The city has been run into the ground by corruption, debt, overly restrictive land-use laws and business regulations, and a cozy relationship with the automakers that left the city with nowhere to go after they left. If Detroit wants to pay its cops enough to keep them there, pay for services, and return business to the city, politics need to change. Business's need to have an easier time opening. The city needs to attract these people to do business in Detroit. The city's politicians will not accomplish this by tax-boondoggles such as convention centers and sports stadiums. It needs to be easier to do business in Detroit, and the city's leaders have been slow to act, as they have been in many other large cities. Land-use needs to become less regulated so that developers can clear the vast, abandoned tracts of the Wayne County. Detroit's recovery cannot happen overnight, but cheap land has already attracted some investors, entrepreneurs, and a growing artist community.

Isn't that also where somebody wants to build a Zombie Themepark--sort of paintball without the paintballs?

lieutenant patterson, who now feels jilted, apparently, cuz chief goodbee took another woman to a party, is now alleging that she was offered a promotion by goodbee in return for her favors

and she's releasing emails she's kept to show her case

she also says she's saved a used condom to prove it

but it gets worse

lieutenant patterson claims she emailed mayor david bing's office thru his deputy saul green informing them of what was going on, and "they weren't interested in doing anything"
Going public strongly suggests that this Lt Patterson believes her behavior, and her expectations, are perfectly acceptable.

Why is she still on the force after the first affair?

No, that isn't the problem or the solution. In actuality, that is the liberal obfuscation that Americans have endured for the past sixty years, usually immediately prior to being told to open our wallets because it's all our fault.

Given the suppression of free speech and reason in the United States, what will eventually happen is what is beginning to take place in Eastern Germany now in reaction to the destruction caused by the 3rd world immigrants throughout Europe.

Pressed to the wall, Americans will eventually begin to incrementally take back their country, one house, one neighborhood, one city, one country, one state at a time. Pressed to the wall, Americans will act, not happily, not enthusiastically, but the liberal politicians in both parties will force Americans to act. We care too much about our country, our families, our children and our faith to remain docile and passive in the face of the evil that is jeering and laughing, ridiculing us as it pushes us to the wall and steals our culture, our language, steals all that we have, all that we built for our children, all that our forefathers died for.

Detroit is long past the point where reducing taxes to more businesses friendly levels will accomplish much. The people are toxic and beyond redemption. I support letting them starve to death but, honestly, they'll kill each other off long before then.

This country needs to scale back social programs drastically to avoid creating more Detroits, Newarks, etc.

The Detroit Police Department lost the upper hand and their nerve. Complaining about too few officers is just an excuse. They're afraid.
