Al Gore Blames Denver Altitude for President Obama's Performance

To think that man was almost president.

To think that we had to choose between Bush and Gore in the same election. Dumb and dumber. What a dark time for America.

What's better about that video is the "yes" "oh yes" responses from the commentators groveling before the feet of Al Gore.

Not really as far fetched as it might seem. Anyone who knows jack about pro football knows the Broncos have a unique home field advantage because of the effect the altitude has on opposing teams. It's also possible Obama had some kind of bug or was just fatigued. Mostly I think he was just frustrated by an opponent who lied and disavowed most of what he has been proposing for the last year.

But the President travels all over the world, and I don't recall its ever being reported that he was off his game because of jet lag or altitude sickness.

If the President were genuinely disgusted or frustrated, then he owed it to me and and the rest of the country to stand up and vigorously defend his truth. He didn't.

Yes, he probably had a bug, was fatigued and suffered from high altitude sickness.

Looking back on the debates it now seems so obvious.

I lived in Denver for years. Coloradans don't like hearing this excuse. Al Gore isn't doing his guy any favors by making altitude an issue.

Obama's aircraft probably had a cabin altitude at or near 5,000 feet for the 2+ hours it took to fly there. He was fine, he's just that stupid.

Stupid is a rather harsh word to apply against the leader of the free world.

Presidentially Challenged might be a more appropriate term.

I hear Romney effectively used climate change to get warmed up for the debate.

I do live here and I can tell you the altitude is an issue for people who have never been here. The President has been here several times campaigning for the 2008 nomination and during his presidency. Obama and his staff are well aware of this effect. I am just wondering if Obama might be getting just a little tired of the fight with the nonsense that is the current political landscape.

I don't really care what Coloradans want to hear or not. The science is pretty clear that the transition to a significantly higher altitude has quantifiable effects on humans. Are we now going to ditch any science that doesn't meet some groups approval? Oh, wait, conservatives already do that with evolution.

Why was Romney not affected by the altitude?

Why was Romney not affected by the altitude?

The argument was that he spent a longer amount of time there before the debate and became acclimated.

. I am just wondering if Obama might be getting just a little tired of the fight with the nonsense that is the current political landscape.

Yes, that's it. He's tired of the current political landscape.

Maybe. with the help of the American people, it would be in his own best interest to remove him from that landscape.

Wow, way to make a jump there from the effects of altitude to evolution.

Back on topic...

Colorado is a swing state, so courting Colorado voters is important for Obama. The altitude is not THAT bad in Denver, especially if you are in decent physical condition.

I don't think you want your candidate coming across as tired and sickly.

If I had to come up with an excuse for Obama's performance, the one I would go with is "he was too busy running the country to prepare for a debate, whereas Romney has been preparing for months."

I would be congratulatory to the Romney camp for a good debate performance, and I would pass it off as no big deal.

You brought up the Broncos, so think of how a good football coach acts after he loses a game.

What, politics is somehow worse than it used to be? Aside from that being hopelessly foolish of a sentiment, is that supposed to mean we ought to take pity on the President for not combating the same conditions that his 40 some predecessors had to deal with?

If he is, he needs to drop out of the race. The congressional republicans are going to have plenty more fight in them for the next 4 years.

I guess that's why professional athletes have trouble acclimating, it only effects the weak and feeble. Obama should have taken the altitude into consideration though and arrived with enough time to at least somewhat acclimate. Of course if he had, the right would have accused him of being lazy and taking another vacation. Being someone who can take 18 months off from working and still make 20M a year has its advantages.

You know I have deployed around the world to various places, to include high altitude. Yes high altitude can affect you negatively performing vigorous tasks. But I never had a problem thinking or talking.

Concur brother. I don't get to go to Afghanistan and use this excuse when engaging a village elder in a KLE. This is a bogus grab from a tired loon (Gore).

The aircraft cabin was pressurized. I'm pretty sure Air Force 1 normally flies higher than 5,000 feet. What the heck kind of aviator are you that you don't know this?

Maybe he should have just opened the window.
