Homeland Security 'fusion' centers spy on citizens, produce 'shoddy' work, report say

This is why I think elected officials and government agents deserve no privacy.People who authorize and or spy on people deserve no privacy.

Homeland Security 'fusion' centers spy on citizens, produce 'shoddy' work, report says - Open Channel

The Department of Homeland Security has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a network of 77 so-called “fusion” intelligence centers that have collected personal information on some U.S. citizens — including detailing the “reading habits” of American Muslims — while producing “shoddy” reports and making no contribution to thwarting any terrorist plots, a new Senate report states.

The “ fusion centers,” created under President George W. Bush and expanded under President Barack Obama, consist of special teams of federal , state and local officials collecting and analyzing intelligence on suspicious activities throughout the country. They have been hailed by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano as “one of the centerpieces” of the nation’s counterterrorism efforts.
But a bipartisan report by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released Tuesday concludes that the centers “often produced irrelevant” and "useless” intelligence reports. “There were times when it was, ‘What a bunch of crap is coming through,’” one senior Homeland Security official is quoted as saying .
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I read about this yesterday. My conclusion is what I have always suspected to be true--we just are woefully incapable of processing large quantities of random information in a useable way. 90% of this crap is window-dressing to create the illusion we are doing something meaningful.

    Its justification for funding.

THIS is a great reason to vote for Romney, if nothing else to get rid of Big Sis.

Very expensive window dressing, and very unconstitutional window dressing, no matter how you cut it. But then the Fourth Amendment was effectively nullified by the USA Patriot Act, so this is no surprise.

And ROMNEY will only expand the program, just as Obama expanded the Bush version.

As many folks have pointed out for the last 11 years or so, the Global War On Terror is a fraud of epic proportions, and these fusion centers are but a wee part of that hoax.

How do we know Romney won't just keep it around or expand it like Obama did?

We don't. In fact, he probably will.

This is completely unsurprising - DHS is precisely what you would expect from a rapidly-put-together amalgamation of bureaucratic vagaries bereft of good guidance or specific mission oriented ability. The fusion centers are good ideas staffed by fools - I know a woman with over a decades' experience in the IC who went through their training program. The "analysts" she was going through the pipeline with were a bunch of retired school teachers, with zero prior military or intelligence experience. Apparently the bureaucracy over there equates "degrees" with "ability", and all the teachers had "masters degrees", so..... She quit in disgust.

Hey, you know what? Let's put these people in charge of health care!!!! That's sure to go well....

I think only Congress can get rid of a department.
