News Anchor's on Air Response to Fat Shaming

True, but I don't think her public status is an excuse for it.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you, but, that logic dictates she should not receive compliments either or an other comments.

All I am saying is that telling her that she is a bad role model for kids due to her weight and position is rude, and insulting. It's not that guy's place to set her diet and weight limit, and if it were a problem she wouldn't be there and whether or not her position is public doesn't change that, if someone gave a lewd compliment because she's a celeb I would say the same thing. Her public status doesn't make unwelcome comments any less excusable is where my position lies. The guy has a right to communicate with her, he just shouldn't have done it.

She should have told him he was being a bad role model by being a prick. I'd rather my kid grow up overweight than being a giant asshole.

LOL we do not disagree at all....:) I said "he sounds like a schmuck and should mind his own business."

Teen women are the most succeptible to the body type pressure, but anyone could fall into unhealthy mental patterns due to the way beauty is presented on a societal level. If I had a child I would rather that they be overweight than try to force loss by eating disorder, a huge problem in this country. I also wouldn't appreciate people tearing my family member apart for such superficial crap as "beauty" and honestly would rather they be happy, civil, and honorable people rather than someone else's eye candy.

I agree. Too many girls don't have a healthy self image because magazines, TV, movies, etc - everyone tells them they have to be beautiful, and the concept of beautiful has shifted so much. I saw an article somewhere the other day that said that size 12 was overweight. Size 12? When I was a kid, size 12 was perfect. Now it's considered overweight?

Beauty is great to look at but it's ultimately a personal thing and it only offers the attractiveness. People are so much more than beauty or at least the ones that form lifelong relationships, beauty doesn't solve problems, it doesn't make someone feel better when they are down, and it isn't everything. I am a huge advocate of modeling agencies offering more body types because I've seen beauty in more than what they offer, I loved a lady for years that most people considered "okay" looking but she was THE sweetest person I ever met, natural conversationalist, and to me smoked other women. She ended up getting married and never considered herself a great catch(probably due to the unnatural standards set by some in society). We have whole demographics of people who think they aren't worth much because they are told they don't meet an artifical standard.

Yup. Plus beauty doesn't last forever, but intelligence, a sense of humor and a whole lotta moxy lasts a long time.

What a dick. The e-mailer was right about obesity being very dangerous for your health but really? The woman wasn't promoting obesity or unhealthy living so no need to be an asshole (I guess some people feel the need).

I could see if the reporter was selling a fitness message or something, but she isn't, she's a reporter.

I think it's nice that a TV station has an overweight female new person. It's not like there is a shortage of Prom queens on TV News these days.

That douchebag lawyer probably hasn't written Cathy Crowley on CNN. I'll bet she's the smartest woman in the News. She sure didn't get the job on her physical appearance. I'd rather watch an overweight woman than the "I like lamp" hotties on Fox News. Those women are smart, but you couldn't tell it by what they read from the teleprompters.

There are a couple of airheads on any given news channel, but FOX has some very intelligent ladies along with the bubbly idiots. That said I do agree with you, a reporter should be hired for good delivery of the news, knowing which stories are newsworthy, analytical skills, and being able to internalize a clock to stay within time parameters. There should never be a beauty requirement for the field.
