Blasphemy or democracy? Egypt cleric tears up, burns New Testament at US Embassy

I thought it was pretty well established that the attack that "end[ed] in other people being dead" was pre-planned and not some spontaneous riot. Why this persistence to blame it on the video?

Shall we start burning Egyptian embassies, and consulates? Shall we riot over this?

Then Terry Jones does the same to the Qu'ran and progressives go insane.

The media bias is obviously there.

Because to admit it was a pre-planned terrorist attack might cause people to realize 1) the administration, through the state department screwed up and 2) there are still bad people, ie terrorists, that want to kill Americans...

So, if I am understanding this correctly, a Muslim burns New Testaments, and get charged with blasphemy. Is it just me, or does this make no sense?

He's charged by the Egyptian General Prosecutor of blasphemy against a religion (in this case christianity) but there's also the case that if the bible burning cleric had a better understanding of his own religion that the christian bible is regarded in islam as containing true revelations of god through the word of Moses and Jesus.

As for the question "blasphemy or democracy" - these are relative terms because they have occurred in countries with very different standards of democracy to ours.

Not to mention that just because OBL was taken out by our seals, the war on terror is NOT over, and Obama's foreign policy is ridiculously flawed.

Let's just get rid of that pesky 1st amendment thing... it's so bothersome.

Under Obama the apologist Dhimi, we are already there....

The producer of the controversial anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims” has been arrested for violating terms of his probation and is set for an appearance today in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

The judge rejected a plea from Nakoula’s lawyer, who argued that the convicted felon’s life would be in danger at an L.A. lockup due to the facility's large population of Muslim inmates.

Investigators have not yet provided details about how Nakoula allegedly violated probation, but it seems clear that his involvement in the “Innocence of Muslim” production is central to the government's new charge.

Isn't that great? We don't have a 1st amendment right anymore under Obama...

The film maker going before the courts might be valid as he may well of violated his parole. But there is no doubt that this highlights that his parole officer (and the system) has issues, for if he wasn't brought into the spotlight, it appears none of this would have happened.

The hypocrisy is so thick here that you can cut it with a knife. Nakoula violated his probation. I don't know where you have been, but I have heard that you go to jail if you violate probation. And there is a reason that one of the conditions of his probation is not to be on the internet. He used the internet to commit the financial crimes for which he was convicted. He agreed to the terms of his probation, and then violated it. Yes, he broke the law, so he is going to jail. This isn't about First Amendment rights at all, but about a douche bag who is getting the punishment he deserves for violating his probation.

He's free to do as he likes. We're free to react rationally to it. We can show the world the proper reaction to valid exercise of rights. Lead by example.

You are the one that said:

"First, it seems that everyone who tries to do that ends up dead or catalyzing riots that end in other people being dead. Second, the radicals and extremists in the ME just like the radicals and extremists in the United States are irrational as are the people in the ME or elsewhere who generalize about Americans"

If you do not care to back up your words, well, that reflects on nobody but yourself. I'm not here for a chest thumping competition, I asked you some questions, if you do not care to answer, then fine. It reflects upon yourself, no matter how much you try to divert with personal attacks.
You asked me questions based on a distortion of what I said. That distortion reflects on you as someone unworthy of a serious response. If you want to be taken seriously, then don't distort what other people said. Until you show a pattern of being able to do that, your posts are worthless. Don't blame me for your failings as a poster.

Ah, so we get more diversion and personal attacks... the norm.

Again you said:

"First, it seems that everyone who tries to do that ends up dead or catalyzing riots that end in other people being dead. "

So, what is your solution to peoples free speech 'pissing off' others and causing them to be violent? If it's not a removal or strict restriction of the 1st amendment, then what is it?

This is no distortion, no matter how badly you don't want to answer the question.

You think too much of yourself if you think I feel "badly" about anything that you post. And the fact that you think "a removal or strict restriction of the 1st amendment" has anything to do with what I posted further proves that you don't understand what I said and that you are projecting your assumptions about me, probably because of my lean, onto my post.

Learn how to read. Then get back to me.

He would have burned our Constitution but our politicians already did that years ago.

And a repeat of the personal attacks rather than content.

Yet another 'liberal' out there that will not support their position with actual data, will not be specific about things, and will not answer simple questions about what they say.

Just the sort of stuff that brings down the quality around here (not that there's much of that).

Actually, what brings down the quality is when posts like yours distort others' posts to the point where an actual discussion cannot be had. To be fair, when people like me respond to the brainless, laughable, delusional wastes of space that are your comments, we also bring down the quality. What people like me should do is ignore your posts until you're so lacking in attention that you leave the forum altogether. But sometimes the stupidity that your posts exude is just too tempting.

Notice how I limited this to your behavior as an individual and didn't tie it to your lean as you did to me. Do you know why I did that? Because I'm not a brain dead hack.

Ah, more personal attacks over content. And so full of delusions it's quite an impressive piece you have constructed.

Your words are your words, they are not distorted, they are quoted verbatim.

It has nothing to do with attention, it has to do with calling out brain dead hacks like yourself, that do nothing but spout the party line they have been given to repeat, that clearly are incapable of thinking on their own. That's why direct questions scare them away, it would reveal the lack of intellectual integrity they run on. Thus, as you have, they resort to diversions, dodging and personal attacks over content or commentary on the topic at hand. It's hacks like you that not only degrade the quality on DP, but don't educate themselves and end up 'voting stupid' continually, thus degrading our nation.

I think we should. Obviously, it's their fault, not our's.

Dunning

Interestintg. Shows the stupity of the ME Islamic protesters. They can't seem to get how we aren't going to go on a rampage because they burned some stuff we could reprint in two seconds. Heck, we've got piss christ touring again in our own country. This makes their excuse for violence (the anti-Muslim movie) look even more lame and once again they prove they're a few centuries behind the rest of the world.

Apparently some people think our bill of rights is what defines a democracy. What's it defined by - the 1st amendment? LOL

Back to school people! Crack open them there political science history books.

I don't think they're stupid; I think they're primitive and unevolved. Our not responding the way they do probably only reinforces their notion that we are unworthy infidels.

Oh heavens - we riot and kill people because of who won a ****ing baseball game.

We're no different - religion just isn't what sets us off.
