At least they found a loophole to jail him, from a pervious conviction though.

The filmmaker behind "Innocence of Muslims," the trailer that sparked riots in the Middle East several weeks ago, has been sent to jail for violating the terms of his probation for a prior conviction, according to the AP.

The man, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, appeared Thursday afternoon in front of a federal court in Los Angeles for a preliminary bail hearing, said Thom Mrozek, a representative for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

The judge, Suzanne Segal, ordered him detained after determining him to be a flight risk, the AP reported.

Honestly, he may be safer in jail than outside. He violated his probation and wasn't arrested over his views, I see nothing wrong or unlawful regarding his jail sentence.

That is not a loophole that is one of the conditions of his probation. He violated that condition and he should be held accountable.

As somebody familiar with U.S. incarceration facilities, I beg to disagree.

I think it depends on the prison. My father worked as a prison chaplain for several years and said that some jails are very rough while some have tighter security for inmates, hence me saying he "may" be safer in jail.

People with bigger/lesser crimes have been shanked under tight security. All it takes is one guard not doing his job right or in need of money.

WASHINGTON -- The nation's state prison officials reported that 12,129 inmates died while in custody from 2001 through 2004, the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced today. The deaths over this four-year period constituted an annual mortality rate of 250 deaths per 100,000 inmates, which was 19 percent lower than the adult mortality rate in the U.S. general population.Overall, 89 percent of all state prisoner deaths were attributed to medical conditions and 8 percent were due to suicide or homicide. The remainder of deaths were due to alcohol/drug intoxication or accidental injury (1 percent each). A definitive cause of death could not be determined for an additional 1 percent. Two-thirds of inmate deaths from medical conditions involved a problem that was present at the time of admission to prison.
DEATH RATES LOWER IN STATE PRISONS THAN IN THE GENERAL POPULATION

pretty ****ty reason to throw him in jail... but meh, he is still paying the piper from past indiscretions, so not much can be said.

Re: BREAKING: Federal Judge Jails Man Behind The Anti-Muslim Film That Sparked Arab R

I wonder how assault rates stack up....

Assault, probably pretty high, but the death rate from homocide is not that astounding to me.

..I would have given odds the homicide rate was pretty bad... good to know I can put that characterization of mine to bed.

I suspect that the guard system probably helps keep that number in check. Don't get me wrong- prison is the last place I would want to be, as they sometimes appear to be little more than cages for animals, but there is less homocide than I would have expected.

it probably helps to have on-site medical staff too

I've never been to prison.. never sentenced to a single day in jail either... but i've spent some time behind bars... it's not my favorite place, but i've also been to a lot worse places.

He violated his conditions of parole. California's judicial system is corrupt as hell, but he hung himself by getting in trouble with the law in the first place.

I'm still trying to figure out why he was trying to convince people he was Jewish.

Copts are extremely familial, as much of that part of the world is. If this guy is indeed a recent Copt immigrant to the US, then he likely has extended family still in Egypt. Who are probably now dead or have buried themselves deep.

One of the conditions of his probation was to not use the internet........OPPS

They only arrested him to kiss Islamic arse..... They popped him on a parole violation for uploading his movie to youtube when he is allegedly (and wrongly) restricted from using the internet. I don't buy the "its a parole violation" line one bit - this is a political arrest - but since he's on parole they can call it what they want. I don't have to buy the story tho.

He was forbidden from use of the internet due to the nature of his crime. Kinda hard to upload a video to the internet without internet. The guy was a dummy, let him rot.
