I didn't think so, which was why I asked the question. People just throw charges like that out there and expect that everyone else will accept them as the truth.

Which is a pretty good strategy for pundits talking to an audience of like minded individuals. On a site that invites debate and differing viewpoints, it doesn't work quite as well.

If I were to offer a guess, I would think we're probably trying to help prop up their economy via trade with them.

That's more likely, along with just handing them money in the form of foreign aid.

    ...just wow....

You can still purchase what I described at below market price. That is exploitation.

Where does it say that I must be dependent upon a country to be exploiting them?

Do the states a favor and don't vote.

breaking away from a country which is going broke is not a bad strategy. The money we give them will readily be made up by countries like Iran happy to have our influence lessened in the ME.

Just another example of why our national debt impacts our national security.

And, I did not suggest that we should change their culture. We can't. If they want to perform clitoridectomies on all the girls that's their business. If wife beating is okay with them that's their business. If honor killings are okay with them that's their business. Executing homosexuals? Their business. But, if President Morsi demands I "respect" this he can forget about it. Won't happen. And if he or any other want to demand that the U.S. modify their culture to permit these behaviors they can forget about it.

In spite of the liberal hatred of free speech, we need free speech and should ignore demands to do away with free speech whether from U.S. citizens or foreign nationals.
The point of his message wasn't that we agree with Arab culture, merely that we don't force our beliefs onto them. That's called respect. Don't put sanctions on a country to force them to stop them from beating their women (if that's their culture). Instead, if you don't agree, just don't do business with them. Pretty simple.

My position is if we don't agree with the way the country is being ran, then we don't do business with them instead of trying to force them to fall in line with us.
