He'll never do a whole 10 years, Chris. He'll most likely be out in less than 5, if he is sentenced to the max.

I really don't think he'll ever do this again -- chances are, he'll never get to the position of power he enjoyed with his splinter group again.

I think this is about the only time this will EVER be relevant in a thread at DP:

I've been following the trial fairly closely, because it's an interesting peek into a rather insular community, and also because I was curious about the "hate crimes" charges.

I started out thinking this was preposterous and ended up thinking this might just be the best use of "hate crimes" laws I've ever seen.

Anyone else watching this case? Whaca think?
Did the prosecutor's closing argument say something like

THOU SUCKETH when he looked at the defendants?

The defense did not put on a case; just moved (again) for dismissal/directed verdict and when that was denied, made closing arguments that the beards and hair were cut "out of love".

    Very strange.

Probably only if they use the King James Version.

10 years in prison because the old Democrat hippies in Washington freaked out at someone's hair being cut against the person's will.

I agree I do not see how Amish engaging in assault other Amish constitutes a hate crime - other than MANY violent crimes are "hate" crimes - certainly all domestic violence and rape cases.

Personally, I think anyone has a right to hate anyone they care to, but should be charged with the crime the committed if that hate leads them to committing a crime against the person. I do not think "hate" itself should be criminal.

a few years ago there was a crystal meth bust of new Amish boys back from their time among the "englanders". they had long long names-the same-and the press put (NO RELATION).

one of the DEA guys I know was on the team=he said the judge was thinking (seeing the names on the docket) that it was a typical case of amish boys hunting without a license or refusing to wear blaze orange during gun season

when the ADA said it was Crank the judge asked if they were telling other Amish

"Brother Aaron you can do a barn raising in an hour with a hit of this and if you give it to your oxen you can plow the back 40 before dinner"!!

What utter rubbish. Obviously sending in "tanks" had nothing to do with the fact that David Koresh was a crazy pedophiliac **** who killed ATF agents. Yeah, it all had to do with their conservative/religious beliefs.

actually two of the agents were killed by their own people

and none of the davidians were convicted of murder meaning they were justified or at least excused in wasting the batf goons that were shot.

it was a publicity stunt by the ATF that was facing funding cuts in congress.

Re: Amish Beard-cutting Attacks Verdicts: Guilty

    I apologize but....

When I hear about this, all I can think of are "Amish gang wars." Seriously...it makes me chuckle.

I imagine M.C. Ezekiel and his "crew" rolling through the community in their buggies for a drive-by. Each gang wears different colored suspenders, and flash Amish gang signs. They taunt each other, saying the other bitch gang "ain't as humble as we are!!" Tagging each others' barns and butter churns. Tipping each others' cows over in the dead of night.

...yeah I'm going to hell. I'll have an aisle seat. Thanks.
