That alone is sufficient when a POTUS has failed as this one has. When you have two supplied parts and one fails you daily, a whole lot of folks would think to switch it out and try the other part.

I think the explanation might lie in the reason they think they're worse off. If they even though Obama has been President for 4 years, its possible they think its not his fault. Maybe its because they think they're worse off because of corporate policies practiced by organizations that Bain Capital exemplifies, at least in imagery.

I also think for a lot of people, its not exclusively about the economy. Making women out to be sluts and porno queens because they want BC coverage isn't going to get a lot of female votes. I know it wasn't Romney who promoted this concept but it was Romney's "team" that did and denounced rigorously by Obama. Making Hispanics out to be presumed criminals in Arizona who should be racially profiled based on their ethnic features with only the authority to arrest and then release and no authority to try, deport or grant residency under federal immigration law, thus legal harassment under state law with other states wanting to copy it isn't going to get you many Latino votes. It might be a false perception or have anything to do with Mitt Romney himself but perception is reality and the AZ immigration law is seen as "this is how republicans treat Hispanics". I could go on but there are quite a few groups the GOP and those perceived as speaking for the GOP who have been alienated over the past 4 years on things having nothing to do with the economy.

If Romney was socially centrist supported at least civil unions, distanced himself from republican immigration policy, took the more centrist I support whatever the status quo line on abortion, was actively pro guns, and pro capital punishment, and did his best not to mention faith too often, I think he would be rather far ahead in the polls.

I mean, it might be totally unscientific empirical observation but the few people I know would would swing vote might have voted for governer Romney, but they are very unlikely to vote for Candidate Romney, not after the crap he said in the primaries.

So if I come across a fire and the only liquid I have is gasoline I should just pour it on the fire. I perfect example of the two party logic that dominates this country.

I don't look to others to confirm my beliefs. It's not always fun being in the minority because you have to listen to so many absurd comments. The fact that you wouldn't agree with something because some celebrity you've never met has the same opinion says more about you than me. Hitler liked dogs does that mean I have to get rid of my dog? My god man turn off the talk radio and think for yourself the country will be much better off.

Like science, it's best to look for others to disconfirm beliefs, to accept difficulties and change.

Reading many different points of views is absolutely necessary for critical thought. However believing or not believing in something because x or y believes or doesn't believe it isn't the same thing.

And for solving social, environmental, even meta-physical/spiritual problems and opportunities (democracy) and robust, adaptable and resilient ecology (ecocentrism).

Let's do one more. See if you like this: Democracy is good for the environment because those directly affected by social and ecologic degradation have a voice.
