Actually many millions of people have paid the ultimate price to have freedom of speech, thought and expression.

Those areas of the world where free speech and free expression is not available tend to be third world and backward. We can include any islamic country among these also rans.

I believe that American freedom of speech has cost some lives already, and will cost additional lives as a result of this film. Defending freedom of speech with regard to this film is worth it.

Islamists must not get the impression that we agree with them in any manner on the matter of free speech somehow being subject to "religious feelings".

I believe that public television should air the film trailer. Prior to airing it, they should state "Due to recent violence in the Middle East and elsewhere, we are showing this clip. We are doing this to assert that Americans will not be intimidated by threat of violence into curbing freedom of expression. We utterly disagree with the content of the film, but consider freedom of expression to be of vastly greater importance".

The general should have called the pastor, informed him that he is a complete and total ass. And then informed him that despite that, the military stands completely ready to defend his freedom of speech. And then released the transcript of his statement.
You can never be safe from a government that can keep you completely safe from each other and the world. You must choose.

Apparently, I did (and do) miss the joke.

I'm sorry to say that one of the clowns will win. The circus will continue. It looks like Clown Obama will give us 4 more years of ????

BTW, neither of these two clowns is going to win with 3 to 1 odds, anyone that believes either is capable of that is not living on planet earth.

I think they are based out of the USA for legal reasons (guessing). They seem well established and if you look at their history, the smart money bets seem to be correct about 100% of the time. 4 more years of Obusha coming soon to a country near you.

You are correct. But this time seems to be an unusually poor investment of our "free speech rights". That's just my personal opinion and I could be wrong.

This is of absolutely no concern to the US military, or even the US government.

The concern of the US military and and the US government is to make it possible for people to have the freedom to do these kinds things, no matter how distasteful they may be.

So, the job of the government, and of the military, is to say, outwardly, to these people who are offended, "yeah? Freedom's a bitch, and we defend her."
Excuse me while I go down to my local theater and yell "Fire" and then go home and download some child porn. Aren't our military great! They protect our rights!

Why is it the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's place to do anything remotely like this? Everyone understands the second part, and that's all anyone needs to know, so the third part is just grandstanding for no apparent reason.

That you suggest he should do this runs completely counter to the beginning of your post:

And I also don't think anyone needs to broadcast it for any reason. There does not need to be a national statement about this video.

This is an idiotic non-response to the post.

You don't like child porn? It harms children just like that film you want so much to protect.

    From Mark Steyn

Halfway through his ordeal, Mr Levant observed that one day the Danish cartoons crisis would be seen as a more critical event than the attacks of September 11th 2001. Not, obviously, in terms of the comparative death tolls, but in what each revealed about the state of western civilization in the 21st century.

After the slaughter of 9/11, the civilized world fought back, hit hard, went on the attack, rolled up the Afghan terrorist camps, toppled the Taliban. In the battle cry of a soon forgotten man called Todd Beamer, “Let’s roll!”

After the Danish cartoons, we weaseled and equivocated and appeased and apologized, and signaled that we were willing to trade core western values for a quiet life. Let’s roll over! It’s a lot less effort.
