It really doesn't make sense. I do not suspect some conspiracy, but something just is wrong about the whole thing.
It doesn't make sense from a western point of view, perhaps, but if you look at from an enemies perspective it certainly does.
If you were going to battle the world's only Superpower, how would you go about it?
Using the military is out of the question, as are the unrealistic rules (from an enemies pov) established by the Geneva Convention.
And what is the preferred outcome of a war?
The understanding of war in the west follows the same archaic notion that has been around for centuries, with rules established over the years that need to be abolished if winning remains the objective.
The British in North America had their foolish (though noble to them) military rules so the enemy adjusted and created their own rules, This is what is happening now, and the Islamists are, I must admit, doing a helluva job. Will the West in general recognize these adaptations or will they remain locked in their traditional methods? That's the question that will have to be answered if the west is to survive.
