Egyptian protesters tear down US flag in attack on Cairo embassy [W:53]

interesting observation - that's what the US defined "terrorists" say

Why yes, they are all just wonderful...In fact maybe you should invite them over for tea.....

While this is despicable, I need more facts about who exactly was involved, whether it is nation wide or a splinter group, before I condemn the entire country or any efforts to by the US to co-opt this government. There is a lot more at stake in this region than to totally write off Egypt because of this incident.

I am not soft on this by any means, I was almost blown up in the first attack on the World Trade Center and lost friends in 9/11, however, a meaningful balance must take place in order to have this region stabilize.

"The flag, similar to the banner used by al Qaeda, is commonly used by ultraconservatives around the region. Almost all the embassy staff had left the compound before the protest, and the ambassador was out of town...One young member of the ultraconservative Salafi movement, Abdel-Hamid Ibrahim said, "This is a very simple reaction to harming our prophet."

Egypt protesters scale U.S. Embassy wall, take flag - CBS News

An embassy belongs to the country occupying it. They attacked America when they scaled the walls, burned our flag and killed our ambassador. After what happened in Tehran in 1979, we either need to protect our embassies or leave those countries.

This was nothing more than an excuse to attack America again on 9/11. Those protesters knew very well that the film was not sanctioned by the US govt or the people.

So your blaming this on the film maker? One can take offense, but do you condone killing for it?

The film maker is blaming the US embassy for not having better security.

I was addressing what occurred in Cairo, "almost all the embassy staff had left the compound before the protest, and the ambassador was out of town" I said in an earlier post the reaction to the movie was a poor excuse to act like animals on 9/11.

Libya is a different story altogether. I expect the current administration to address these occurrences in the appropriate manner.

The blame lies squarely with those who committed these acts of violence.

Americans did make this filthy film..

If the rioters were attacking the source, they would NOT be attacking US embassies.

Perspective Sharon, it was a film that is all.

If the rioters were attacking the source, they would NOT be attacking US embassies.

If the "rioters" were properly attacking/addressing anyone it would be with words not violence. You are making excuses for these crazed lunatics.

Amazing that Egypt has not said anything. Time for Morsi to hand us that Sunni Sheik who is a cleric hiding in their Mosque. Can you believe that all these young people in Egypt just can't figure it out about Democracy and Free Speech. Why is it that the Young People of the ME have no common sense when it comes to listening to these So called Religious Leaders of theirs.

Yes. I find it easy to believe. They aren't culturally conditioned for living in a democracy. Their primary religion is at odds with democracy. What I find hard to believe is that so many westerners don't understand this.

I was going to say show me where in the Quran it says they can attack others who are innocent of the affront?

and defend it anyway....

I agree... My family was attacked by a Shia riot over something Israel did..

So while we're posturing and pontificating, people get hurt or die because of damned fools and bastards... Like our dead embassy staff who would NEVER insult Muslims.

Are you living in the Middle East, lizzie?

and defend it anyway....

Some are so determined to defend at all costs, I often find myself wondering if that is their very purpose here.

Egyptian Television Re-Airs Anti-Semitic Miniseries “Horseman Without A Horse”
Access ADL: Egyptian Television Re-Airs Anti-Semitic Miniseries “Horseman Without A Horse”

The anti-Semitic miniseries Horseman Without A Horse, is back on Egyptian television.
The 41-part series, which first appeared on Egyptian state television and other networks across the Middle East during Ramadan in 2002, is scheduled to be broadcast on Al-Tahrir TV.
Al-Tahrir TV, established after the 2011 revolution, claims to be an independent voice of the “new Egypt” that supports “Tahrir Square’s revolutionary youth and their principles.”

The series features the virulently anti-Semitic forgery “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion,” which has been used through the last century as an excuse to scapegoat and persecute Jews, as a major plot device.

The program, replete with gross anti-Semitic accusations and depictions, tells the story of scheming Jews, who in a bid to dominate Israel, the Middle East and the world, make efforts to hide the existence of the “book” [The Protocols], which would reveal their conspiracy."....."

Yeah? So? Why didn't they have better security? Why didn't the wonderful Egyptian Military stop the terrorists? Reports are that they stood aside and allowed it to happen....Wasn't the Arab spring wonderful? Now we have a new enemy instead of an ally....Good job Obama.

I could not understand how this could happen until learning now that apparently the Obama Administration disarmed the Marines at our embassies.

It is starting to appear the racial Islamic theorcrats have found the greatest possible supporter and ally of all in President Obama.

Whether it was Libya, Egypt or elsewhere in the region, a mob could not defeat our Embassy Marines. Only Obama's administration could give them victory - and now it appears that is exactly what happened.

This should be the lead story in every newspaper and on every news network - and when the House of Representatives should begin an emergency inquiry and public investigation is YESTERDAY.

A CONSULATE rarely has guards.

A CONSULATE rarely has guards.

Perhaps, but in a country that could possibly turn hostile, it would have been a good idea to have a strong security detachment.
