Egyptian protesters tear down US flag in attack on Cairo embassy [W:53]

and yet as idiotic as they are, they stil pale in comparison to those you seek to defend by making such a comparison.

I never said they're equal in comparison.

Did I?

So THAT'S why it says you are in Egypt for your location.

It's becaus eyou aren't :doh
The site wouldnt allow the words Bum and **** before the word Egypt...

This is surprising for me too but no, you actually didn't. :)

So then you are in Egypt but you are not in Egypt .... where the heck are you? in LALA Land?

We have people who say "God Hates Fags", say weather catastrophes are "God's vengeance", and blame every bad thing that has happened on homosexuality, tolerance, liberalism, feminism, and whatever else.

Yeah...and?

It was illiterate hardliners who were responding to a film about Muhammed that portrayed him in a vulgar, perverse manner. That was deliberate.

While I doubt Americans would riot, I do think they would be angry if Jesus was portrayed that way in a movie.

What are you talking about.....People in the US deface Religious Works and Jesus all the time. Point is.....in return. Ya don't see a mass mob tearing things apart over it. Sure someone will speak out. Maybe even some people get into an altercation. But nothing wherein a Mass of people will stir up Hatred.

This film was vulgar and deliberate.. Its affect on the Arabs was predictable, but they aren't the only ones being manipulated. We are being manipulated as well.

Meanwhile, they have burned the embassy in Benghazi.

Egypt...Libya...yep...things are going swimingly. They wuvs us!

Wonder how the Egyptions would feel if we, decided to not let them Shop thru our Military Mail order Catalogs?

Moreover how close would anyone get to a foreign embassy in the US to do these craziness. The whole premise is ludicrous.

Here is a " List of attacks on diplomatic missions" since 1829 through today. It appears foreign embassies are safe in the US...:)

List of attacks on diplomatic missions

I'm wondering why the Marine gaurds at the embassy didn't score a few kills, defending the embassy peremiter. Ordered to stand down, perhaps?

Are you saying all Arabs lack self control? Is that why it was predictable?

I remember watching Jesus fight in celebrity death match (a ridiculous show) strangely I did not start a riot.

The protesters were contained and any deaths/injuries would have accelerated and intensified the violence.

"Dozens of riot police lined up along the embassy walls. They did not stop protesters who continued to climb up the wall and stand on it, chanting. But it appeared they were no longer going into the embassy compound."

Where were the Egyptian police during all of this? An attack on a nations Embassy is an act of aggression and should not be taken lightly.

Don't worry. It seems that we have apologized for the movie today. How sad and weak do we look when we apologize to people who tore down our flag and replaced it with Al-Quieda's flag.

It wouldn't accomplish anything that's why, sure you could kill a few protestors but ultimately just anger them all the more and increase the potential for violence. There's no indication that after they bounded the wall that any further attempt was made to get inside the embassy itself.

According to the BBC and other sources salafists, a type of hardline fundamentalist and often violent Muslim belief group, were involved and perhaps motivated the attack. BBC News - Egypt protesters breach US embassy over 'insulting' film

What needs to be done is work with the Egyptian authorities to crack down on these guys by influencing them through diplomatic means, a carrot and stick approach, the US gives aid to Egypt and if Egypt cannot guarantee our embassy's security then that aid because leverage. There are ways to get Egypt to work with us against this hardliner portion of their population, and I'll tell you nothing would come of bloodshed by our Marines in the embassy expect further problems.

Misrepresenting yourself in this manner clearly does in any worthwhile discussion of this nature.

Having to know whether or not someone has an ipad in a country you supposedly live in is not a worth while discussion, so no, it doesn't actually matter.

Really? Who apologized for what movie?

However, stringing people along when asked a direct question, speaks to credibility. So yes ...

Following the protest, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said it was committed to giving all embassies the necessary protection.

The U.S. embassy had put out a statement earlier on Tuesday condemning "misguided individuals" who hurt the religious feelings of Muslims or followers of other religions.

"We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others," the U.S. embassy said in its statement.

Although it was not clear which film prompted the protests, Egypt's prestigious Al-Azhar mosque and seat of Sunni learning condemned on Tuesday a symbolic "trial" of the Prophet organized by a U.S. group including Terry Jones, a Christian pastor who triggered riots in Afghanistan in 2010 by threatening to burn the Koran.

Egypt's Coptic Orthodox church also condemned in a statement some Copts living abroad who it said financed "the production of a film insulting Prophet Mohammad", a state website reported. About a 10th of Egypt's 83 million people are Christians.

One slogan scrawled on the walls of the embassy, which is near Tahrir Square where Egyptians revolted against Mubarak, said: "If your freedom of speech has no limits, may you accept our freedom of action.".....snip~
