VLADIVOSTOK, Russia — Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has severed Canadian ties with Iran over its sponsorship of terrorism and amid fears about the safety of diplomats in the country.

Baird says the Canadian embassy in Tehran will close immediately and Iranian diplomats in Canada have been given five days to leave.

Thanks for the post Mya...

I am not surprised as Iran continues to push the envelope with total disregard for anyone but their own country, however, in doing so they have lost another "friend'.

"The Iranian regime is providing increasing military assistance to the Assad regime," Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said. "It refuses to comply with United Nations resolutions pertaining to its nuclear program. It routinely threatens the existence of the state of Israel, and engages in racist anti-Semitic rhetoric and incitement to genocide."

and for certain posters here, that seems to be one of their selling points.

If you are suggesting that is mine you are wrong, I will correct you ...It is the following:

"...the people in Iran have little or no human rights to speak of, unlike the US. When discussing Sharia law in 2004 the European Court of Human Rights "found that sharia was incompatible with the fundamental principles of democracy… It considered that “sharia, which faithfully reflects the dogmas and divine rules laid down by religion, is stable and invariable. Principles such as pluralism in the political sphere or the constant evolution of public freedoms have no place in it. According to the Court, it was difficult to declare one’s respect for democracy and human rights while at the same time supporting a regime based on sharia, which clearly diverged from Convention values, particularly with regard to its criminal law and criminal procedure, its rules on the legal status of women and the way it intervened in all spheres of private and public life in accordance with religious precepts.”

This saber rattling is theater..

If I had a magic wand I would make Amanutjob shut up and ignore Israel.

Hmmmm......Canada cutting ties and pulling their people out. Plus now with the First pipeline going online and running outside of the Persian Gulf. Just how do you think this comes into play? Anyone else seeing Obstacles being removed and the enforcing of isolating the Iranians as a means to make the push for.....the Next Engagement!

Which pipeline has just come on line?

The Plan is to Isolate Iran! Then force Confrontation!

This is what the End Game will look like. Which will leave Iran Isolated. Forcing them to make a move and Engage!

No Takers? I hear the Saudis are about to complete the one out to the Red Sea.

I was absolutely NOT suggesting that, Connery. You are just fine by me.

THere is no shortage of Israel hating, illiberal leftists on this board, however.

I don't think anyone hates Israel on this board. The posts I've seen are usually opposed to intervention in Iran, and that (for some reason) is usually considered anti-Semitic or anti-Israeli.

Does this mean we aren't going to bomb Canada now?

Petroline was built in 1981, but it has been expanded .. it runs to Yanbu and a whole downstream manufacturing thing that is IMO the 8th wonder of the world.

Your map is great.

The GEOPolitics of the Hormuz Chokepoint!

In order to decapitate Iran and finish it’s strike capacity at least 11,000 targets have to be immediately struck. This will be a major war. In particular, the Shahab missile sites have to destroyed immediately because it is a near certainty that at least some of these 2, 000 kilometre range missiles have been programmed to destroy the oil refining capacity of Saudi Arabia.....snip~

I read that today. I think it's good and something must be up.

And tommorow Canada shall drop trillions of gallons of maple syrup on Tehran to make the flies attack the populace.

And the isolation and sanctions towards Iran commenced years ago .... but have proved ineffectual .... in any event, this is a welcome, unique and courageous step on the part of Canada.

Yes.....the move is to get Assad out and reopen the TAP line!

CP Abdullah ordered a study to repair and restore TAPLINE in 2002 right after the Saudi Peace Initiative was announced.. It would still run to Sidon with a spur to Haifa. I think that died with the peace proposal, but we sure were excited for awhile.

Well, Canada has no choice.. They can't leave their people in harm's way.

Better safe than sorry.
