Michael Clarke Duncan dead at 54

Michael Clarke Duncan, the hulking, prolific character actor whose dozens of films included an Oscar-nominated performance as a death row inmate in "The Green Mile" and such other box office hits as "Armageddon," ''Planet of the Apes" and "Kung Fu Panda," is dead at age 54.

Duncan died Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for a heart attack, said his fiancée, reality TV personality Rev. Omarosa Manigault, in a statement released by publicist Joy Fehily.

The muscular, 6-foot-4 (1.96 meter) Duncan, a former bodyguard who turned to acting in his 30s, "suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered," the statement said. "Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date."

I loved him in the movies..

RIP... Michael Duncan.

Wow, that sucks. Like him, he was great in The Green Mile.

Heart attack after going Vegan for a few years, strange.

Heard about it earlier, huge loss. Just about every role he played was perfect.

I was thinking more along the lines of possibly aggressive HGH or steroid use in younger years? I'm thinking most likely genetic I'd think.

an excellent actor gone too soon. RIP.

wow - that's sad. I'll miss his voice :(

Aww man that sucks. That guy was awesome

Such a wonderful actor. I enjoyed his performances so much.

RIP

That is a shame. 54 is very young to die of natural causes.

When you reach 40, if you haven't been doing it already it is high time to get annual physicals, and take whatever tests your doc suggests.

I didn't think he was that old. I liked his acting. That sucks!

I wonder what he od'ed on.

He suffered a heart attack in July, never fully recovered. In his bio it stated he didn't drink or do drugs, probably an unfortunate genetics hand.

I'd be very proud of him if he wasn't strung out on something.

From what I understand he was a very sober individual and a gentle giant. One of the articles covering his passing stated his temperment was close to that of his "John Coffey" role on "The Green Mile".

Very sad. I was just watching Talladega Nights last night.

Too young, may he RIP.

Seriously . . . apdst . . . you're better than that.

It's offensive, I think, to falsely accuse someone of having od'd on something just because you don't think it's possible to die naturally in your 50's. That's a heavy and nasty allegation - one you should be ashamed of. It's possible and it happens.

Are we going to have these accusations every single time someone dies before they're 'at the right age for it' (what's the acceptable age-cut off, 60?? 70??)

It may have been
He was advised years ago to lose weight (around Sincity release date) for health reasons

I didn't accuse anyone of a goddamn thing, so chill out.

5Comment 0 Michael Clarke Duncan lost 90 pounds after adopting a farm-style workout regime he created for himself. The star, 49, weighed in at 360 pounds a year ago when he decided it was time to tone down, so he bought himself a tractor tire and a sledgehammer

This article is from 2006

So I would suggest that he has not always had a healthy diet in the past, and extreme weight loss or gains are generally bad for a person especially if done repeatedly

Aw stop! That was just a curious comment! You both need to relax!

Hint: I am not the topic of the ****ing thread.

"Aw stop!" - now imagine that being said by Michael's handsome self . . . adds an adorable teen-quality to the pureness of it. LOL With that deep, rattle baritone. Heavens! But an edge of pure innocence - so misleading, I'm sure!

His voice - like candied sex. "Cut around the meat..."

You are so correct. Another one that comes to my mind was John Ritter who died at the age of 54 from an aortic dissection. Both men left way too early. Never read anything negative about either actors.

But you realize there is the National Enquirer educated population in America who want to believe that anyone who dies young was popping pills and that Elvis must be alive.

Horrid racial sterotype was the Green Mile written by stupid hick Stephen King, starring the even stupider Tom Hanks who will do any old piece of s**t script to get in front of a camera, and advance his "star" status.

Gee lets see - a typical black southern illiterate retarded slave murderer talks like Amos and Andy dies sacrificing himself so Whitey can feel better about himself.

What a moral.

What a tragic shame. Duncan utterly dominated the screen in every role he played. With his size, his presence, his voice, the audience focused totally on him. So much talent. He will be sorely missed. :(
