US Firms Move Abroad To Avoid Taxes

U.S. Firms Move Abroad to Cut Taxes - WSJ.com

Liberals keep insisting that US companies don't pay the highest corporate taxes in the world, that corporate taxes are actually low. But the companies themselves think they are paying too much in taxes and are willing to go through relocation over seas to get the taxes down.

Yet another way in which government policy is killing our economy.

Eaton moving is a big deal given how many former employees rely on Eaton for retirement and medical coverage. Often what follows after such a merger and foreign move, the company will shift all its debts to the old company also selling off its assets, while transferring all profit areas to the other company, then bankrupt the old company eliminating pension and insurance obligations.

Actually Eaton is purchasing Cooper Industries PLC, which is already headquartered in Ireland.
The acquisition will change the new companies home location to Ireland, from the U.S.

But there is not going to be a bankrupting of Eaton's U.S. based operations.
I'm a Cooper investor, a very good deal imo.

Just as workers cant compete with slaves.

Gov cant "compete" with zero taxes........

    I would simply

    revolk al l patents
    All corp filings
    all corp exchange listings

for any corp that did not pay full USA corp tax rate.

they dont want to pay, they dont get any protection of USA.......

Re: US Firms Move Abroad To Avoid Taxes

Considering the current governments attitude towards business. The Tax rate. The fact that the US is the only country that taxes it's companies on worldwide profits, not just those earned in the US. The regulatroy enviroment in the US. Labor costs. The general business enviroment in the US right now. The question comes up not that the stated company is moving, but why aren't a lot more of them heading out? Even though I am an American, it is one of the last places in the world where I would base the headquarters of a company today.

Obviously 274ina feels differently and appears to support keeping companies here until they are completely bled dry and die intead of giving them a fighting chance. Instead of that, maybe we should take some serious looks at our business enviroment and figure out why we are so undesirable now for headquartering a business. Or even as a labor market. 274ina probably will attribute all the problems to Capitalist greed, but, well, I just don't buy that argument. If keeping it here under current conditions leads to failure, we get nothing from it. If it moves elsewhere, we don't get as much from it but at least we get some. Same with labor, if we force labor to be kept here, then we don't buy our own products because Americans either buy on quality or on price and we are currently unable to offer the better choice based upon those two factors, the company fails and we end up with nothing. Maybe it is not what most people want, but, personally, I think us getting less than we currently do and keeping at least some here is far better than driving all business and labour out and we get nothing or it fails because the current system cannot sustain it, again leaving us with nothing.

The US government takes about 20% of the GDP. Not exactly zero.

Ok, so you're a socialist. But Americans don't swing that way.

Those statements are not necessarily mutually exclusive, however. Corporations could pay very low taxes compared to other advanced countries, but the corporations themselves could think they pay too much and move to more developing nations where they could realize an even lower tax rate.

    Tariffs solves the problem.

They will when they learn to think and demand the basics in life.

Sadly, way to many Americans do swing that way now. Persuing ones dreams and making them a reality used to be part of the American Dream, now we have fallen to "lets get the government to take away from others and give to me" mentality.

Now the ones they love to take from are deciding to get the hand of the theif out of their pockets by heading elsewhere and the "give me, give me" crowd cannot stand their most profitable victims escaping.
