Niel Armstrong Dead. RIP

Armstrong was a great man, and a true hero. There was no guarantee of a safe return and they went into the mission without hesitation, may he rest in peace.

Apollo 13 proves your point. They beat the odds with American inginuity.

And flat out courage by that crew. Amazing they held up under such prolonged strain and fear.

RIP Neil Armstrong.

This is one Armstrong that will not be tarnished by doping. He made us all so proud to be fellow Americans. Good job man.

Re: Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, dies

Next to the birth of my children, that day in July of 1969 and November 22, 1963 remain the most memorable days of my life. RIP.

Re: Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, dies

great thing about people like Armstrong is that because of his acheivments he doesnt just belong to the USA he belongs to the world

Definition of an American Hero.

That's because they had "the right stuff".

What is really sad is that 43 years after his moon landing we have no manned space program to speak of. It seems unlikely that any of us will ever see anything like what he did again in our lifetimes.

Neil Armstrong has always been, and always will be, a personal hero of mine. His loss is the world's loss. He will be mourned and he will be missed.

Absolutely. To think with the He-3 on the moon and the energy potential in it's technology once we learn how to tap it Neil Armstrong would have a huge part in that. It's amazing to think how brave all those men were, there are thousands of things that can go wrong during a space mission and any one of them is fatal, even with those odds the astronauts went up.

My hero. I have a vague memory of the Moon landing as one of my earliest memories of anything other than my parents.

I'm sorry to hear that this man, who was an embodiment of a great historical achievement, has passed on ... RIP Neil.

he belongs to history now and he will remain there forever

A great hero has passed on, but the memory of his courage never will.

The first moon landing will forever be America's Great Pyramid of Giza. The Russians threw stuff at the moon and hit it before we did. But the first people to ever set foot on a world other than Earth were Americans, and Neil Armstrong was the first.

Yep this.

Very sad day, but he lead a great life, and was a pioneer for human exploration. May we honor his memory by continuing to explore the stars.

Except no one is doing that. 40 years after the historic moon landing, no country has worked on warp drive or even sent a man to any other planet, including Mars.

I bet he was very sad when he died, knowing that mankind cared so little for the kind of thing that once made him a hero.

Hearing Rocketman in my head - RIP Neil.

Even to the end he was still trying to explain his line when walking on the moon. he kept insisting he did not make a mistake but he actually said A MAN when the tape indicates he said only MAN - which is the same as MANKIND which followed.

Well, no-one has worked on warp drive because it's not real. Star trek is just a TV programme.
Sending a person to Mars could be done, but the cost would be controversial.

And that's precisely the attitude that led to the failure of mankind to achieve anything big in space since 1969.

It's also worth noting that the US already wastes astronomical amounts of money building bombs and military equipment w/no practical value.

If that wasted money were instead spent on the space program, we'd have already sent a man on Mars and (probably) even started on warp flight.

China, India, or some Europeran country will ultimately be the first nation to send a man on Mars and/or develop the first practical warp field theory, because unlike the US, those countries don't have the burden of the GOP wasting all its resources on oil and bomb building.
