A great hero has passed on, but the memory of his courage never will.

The first moon landing will forever be America's Great Pyramid of Giza. The Russians threw stuff at the moon and hit it before we did. But the first people to ever set foot on a world other than Earth were Americans, and Neil Armstrong was the first.

Except no one is doing that. 40 years after the historic moon landing, no country has worked on warp drive or even sent a man to any other planet, including Mars.

I bet he was very sad when he died, knowing that mankind cared so little for the kind of thing that once made him a hero.

Even to the end he was still trying to explain his line when walking on the moon. he kept insisting he did not make a mistake but he actually said A MAN when the tape indicates he said only MAN - which is the same as MANKIND which followed.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Well, no-one has worked on warp drive because it's not real. Star trek is just a TV programme.
Sending a person to Mars could be done, but the cost would be controversial.

And that's precisely the attitude that led to the failure of mankind to achieve anything big in space since 1969.

It's also worth noting that the US already wastes astronomical amounts of money building bombs and military equipment w/no practical value.

If that wasted money were instead spent on the space program, we'd have already sent a man on Mars and (probably) even started on warp flight.

China, India, or some Europeran country will ultimately be the first nation to send a man on Mars and/or develop the first practical warp field theory, because unlike the US, those countries don't have the burden of the GOP wasting all its resources on oil and bomb building.
