Handcuffed suspect shoots himself while in the back of a police cruiser

    according to authorities.

This one smells fishy to me. Where is the gun? How could he shoot himself while handcuffed?

Arkansas Police: Man Killed Himself in Back of Cruiser

Authorities in Jonesboro, Ark., are continuing their investigation into the death of a Southaven man whom they say fatally shot himself while sitting in the back of a patrol car.
A police report says Carter was in the back of a patrol car with his hands cuffed behind his back when officers discovered he'd been shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

I think some cop's career is over.

Yeah, that's what I never understood about the story when I first heard it. How do you shoot yourself in the head when you are in handcuffs?

I see these cops will be out of a job and sentenced to prison. Every episodes of COPS I seen they always frisk the person,so the idea that they just slapped cuffs on someone and put in the back of the squad car without frisking him sounds extremely suspicious.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

and if you can, where is the gun?

It must be on the floor of the cruiser. It should have the suspect's handprints on it. The bullet should have come from that particular gun. No one has said anything about the gun that was allegedly used.

I saw this re-enacted. Yes, it's possible. What may be fishy is that I understand the guy was searched for weapons twice.

    Edit:

In the re-enactment I saw, the gun was in his back pocket, I believe. He was able to twist around to get it, then bend way over to the right side and shoot himself. The re-enactment proved it was possible.

Jonesboro police say the 21 year old shot himself not long after being pulled over and detained on July 29, after two police searches uncovered a small amount of marijuana but no weapon.

Carter was placed in the rear of a squad car. Not long after, police say one of two officers on the scene smelled smoke, opened the car's rear door and found Carter slumped over and bloodied.
I am no firearms expert but shouldn't they have heard a gun go off,not just smell smoke?

None of this makes any sense....other than poor police work and a feeble attempt to make some excuses.
