Oh!!! That I have no idea about. They didn't find it?? That's crazy, then.

Just Googled an NBC or ABC link. The found the gun "lying near him." To those who say the officers didn't hear a gunshot. Yes, they did.

"He was handcuffed behind his back," says Sergeant Lyle Waterworth. He adds cops were a little more than a car length away when they "reported hearing a sound. They were not sure what the sound was."

That is until they found Carter bleeding, a gun lying near him. Officers say they searched him twice before the shooting, never finding a gun.

Oh, so they did find a gun.

Now, they need to show that the bullet came from that gun, and that the suspect's handprints were on it.

The original story (CNN) didn't mention them having found a gun.

It DOES sound fishy, and may be BS, but it is certainly possible.

Back when I used to work Booking, I routinely found stuff on subjects that had supposedly been searched by the arresting officer. These items included small bags of drugs, knives and once a small pistol. Doing a PROPER "pat down" takes a certain amount of time and is difficult to do on a resisting subject. Some people, even some cops, loathe the necessarily "intimate" physical contact involved in doing a proper pat-down and tend to skimp.

Even a well-done pat down may miss things. I've done strip searches on subjects and found things that a good pat-down missed.

Some people are remarkably limber and can do a lot more than you'd think with their hands cuffed behind them, also.

Now, on the whole it DOES sound suspicious and I hope a very throrough investigation is performed... it may be that the ofc is covering up for some major stupidity or worse... but it is POSSIBLE that this could have happened more or less as stated.

If the cops here are guilty then this is the stupidest plan for a murder in history. If they wanted this guy dead why not kill him where he was arrested and include a drop gun? Think about this, did several cops get together and come up with THIS plan? I find that impossible to believe. Searches are missed every single day in airports where thats all those people do! This is a weird one.

I am not saying nothing funny went on here, but Police have missed guns on suspects before.

He may not have been trying to kill himself. He may have been trying to discard the gun and it went off and he got hit in the head.

This one smells fishy to me. Where is the gun? How could he shoot himself while handcuffed?

It may be possible to do, this requires significant investigation. But was he not checked for guns before hand? Did the cops not hear the shot? There's significant doubt as to the officer's story here.

Dashcam footage was released, but it was had a gap during the actual shooting. There was an autopsy report, but there was no test done for gunpowder residue on carter's hands. What happened could have been a freak accident, but its quite reasonable to suspect homicide given the circumstances.

Hmmm ... the Nixon tapes had 18 minutes missing.

    If not, why not?

    They frisked him twice, iirc.
    I may be wrong.
