It is good that things like wikileaks now exist to remind those that use the military as an excuse to act illegally that it is becoming harder for them to get away with it.

Only totalitarian states seek to muzzle the media. WHy do you want the USA to be a totalitarian state?
Julian is a whack job who hates government and the west. The soldier who leaked stuff to him should hang. We should whack Julian for being an enemy seeking to get american Military killed

Especially when the person in question swore an oath to serve and protect the country he committed treason against.

As for Assange. First, he should face the charges in Sweden. Just like I would have to or anyone else.

His "journalism" looks like information warfare to me, and I detect a significant anti US bias. Frequently I see this bias in his supporters too. I think some of what his organization has done is good, but it is a mixed bag and some of it has endangered US military ops. Overall I would say he commits information warfare primarily against the USA while hiding behind the shield of "Journalism".

Did you see his comments today where he made demands of the US? I bet that will work ever so well...

Arguments like this are part of the reason governments feel safe using their power irresponsibly.

Enforcing the law is why governments use power irresponsibly? Really? Should we ban the criminal justice system then?

No, knowing that people will bandwagon on the "leaking classified information will end your time as a free person" argument is part of (you forgot that part) the reason why governments use power irresponsibly.

Yes, that is what we call enforcing our laws. Those laws are there for a very good reason. Joe Private simply cannot make the determination as to what should be secret and what should be released to the press. If Joe Private feels something should not be classified, he does have avenues to actually address that which will provide him protection from recrimination.
