Las Vegas Sands target of U.S. money-laundering probe, WSJ says

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Las Vegas Sands Corp, controlled by billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, is the target of a federal investigation into possible violations of U.S. money-laundering laws, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.
The Los Angeles U.S. attorney's office is looking into the casino company's handling of the receipt of millions of dollars from a Mexican businessman, later indicted in the United States for drug trafficking, and a former California businessman, later convicted of taking illegal kickbacks, the Journal said, citing lawyers and others involved in the matter.
The transactions date from the mid-2000s.

I read that article too. My first thought was "now I know why he is spending so much money to unseat Obama". Adelson may deny that these allegations have anything to do with his deep involvement in Republican politics, but remember one political adage that is timeless in its truthfulness: When someone denies it's about the money, it's always about the money.

There's nothing in the article that connects Sands Corps money w/Adelson's campaign contributions to the Republican Party (specifically, Mitt Romney). But money laundering can take many unexpected paths. All I have to say is Mitt Romney had better be very careful as to how close he rubs elbows with Adelson. If the shoe drops too close to campaign contributions, Romney could be in big trouble where campaign finance is concerned.
