The anti-Chick-fil-A protest - Starbucks [W:39]

I'm not anti gay but I'm equal rights. SSM isn't about equal rights so I'll cut up my Starbucks card in support of equal rights.

But don't they have the right to free speech? What about their religious freedom?

Plus I think on the card, they already got the money. So it's kind of an ineffective protest. Just saying.

I'm all for their right to free speech. You have it here so feel free to explain why I should care what happens at Starbucks.

My wife and I are going to do the nasty on one of those bistro tables outside a Starbucks.

I don't really care about the chick-fil-a bs (though I stopped eating there months ago because of their donation choices). However, I fully support equal rights. I am also capable of understanding that SSM is about equal rights. Therefore, I will be happy to go to Starbucks in support of equal rights.

Except SSM is about equal rights...

Oh for the love of Pete. Tomorrow I'm having a Whataburger taquito appreciation day because I support equal access to delicious breakfast tacos.

I'll be brewing my Starbucks coffee at home, and missing the protest (and the show that Mr and Mrs PerfectStorm are putting on- damnit;)).

Prove it. Put up or shut up.

You're kidding, right?

Right now, the vast majority of gay couples are being denied legal access to federally recognized marital unions. This disallows them access to several benefits that straight couples are allowed to access merely for being a straight couple willing to sign a marriage license. Equal protection under the law includes legally binding contracts.

Name one benefit that I have, under federal law, as a straight male that gay men don’t have. I’m not free to marry just any woman I desire or any man I desire. This isn’t a human rights issue it is a social issue decided by state law.

I'm not going to waste time on idiocy.

You have the right to have your marriage to a person you are genetically programmed to be attracted to recognized by other states. You have the right to expect the benefits of that marriage to be respected in every state.

Genetics? Please don’t boor me with this tired and unproven argument again. If I'm genetically designed to marry children or dogs is that a human right?

Children are under the age of consent and animals cannot give consent to marry, so there is a solid legal argument against both.

Try again.

You may not be able to spell it, but bore is a good word. This debate topic has been worked over so many times it's ridiculous. In the thousands of posts on the topic, no one has managed to come up with valid arguments against SSM. It's a pretty sad, one-sided, debate anymore. Mostly folks like you come up new ways to argue the same tired stuff. Thing is, no one with any analytic skills and a modicum of wit is going to be swayed against the right to SSM. Mostly it comes down to the same thing as so many debates. People already convinced of their view point sit and argue with no chance of convincing the other and rehash the same material until someone gets too bored to reply.

1. Don't like Coffee and starbucks hot chocolate sucks

2. The only reason I would've even THOUGHT about attending the Chick-Fil-A protest purposefully was due to the only potential (and arguably actual) infringement of the first amendment on the part of the idiot mayors

3. Even then, I didn't have any desire to attend such a protest because its ****ing fast food. I go to my resturants and coffee joints to eat/drink, not make some stupid political statement

4. If this was anything more than a political stunt, or wasn't just reactionary BS rather than some honest desire to raise SSM awareness, Starbucks would've done this without the extra urge from Chick-Fil-A. This is them trying to cash in on the whole thing imho.

So yeah...the chances of me purposefully attending this "protest" is just a smidgen less than the "ridiculously doubtful to an extreme" chance that I would've purposefully attended the Chick-Fil-A one.
